I have to admit I prefer Robotnik as well. It actually sounds like a villainous name; "Eggman" just sounds like a nickname.
the simple fact that the author had the hubris to have his OC end up being the one responsible for all, or at least some, the good the Mane 6 did ended up doing. The single greatest thing to me about the past in FOE was that MAJOR SPOILERS
even with all there failures, nearly everything turning out wrong and coming back on them, each of the Mane 6, except Twilight, was able to create the seeds of hope that would allow Equestria to be reborn. RD, the SPP; AJ, the Steel Rangers, the TRUE Steel Rangers, those that followed Steelhooves; Rarity, the figurines; Pinkie, the orbs she left to explain both what went wrong, and how it could be fixed; Fluttershy, both her legacy of how ponies could and should be, as well as the megaspells..that which ended the old world also insured the rebirth of the new. And more then anything else, Twilight, who didn't create a seed, no, she created The Gardens in which those seeds could take root and flourish And the person writing PH has the gall to take that away from them and give credit to all/most of that to some

And yes i'm with the majority of American's on this, his name is Robotnick, Eggman is just a nickname.

Knowing Somber, Goldenblood probably convinced Celestia to do something important that she really shouldn't have needed convincing for, and it made him "Awesome" or some bullshit. That's my guess.
Really, PH is full of wasted potenial, all because of that Bastard Goldenblood.
And to be fair on the "Robotnik vs Eggman" thing, he never was meant to be a serious villain in the first place, and the Sonic games have always been goofy. Although yes, Robotnik is the better name of the two.
