I kinda get ginger's point, I'm not big on Invincible Hero characters, as it's page quote states, then being fallible gives them pathos and sympathy. Most Invincible Heroes end up Hero Antagonists.

From what I remember of the film. The villains starts to dominate before he gets a Heroic Second Wind.

Alright another page topper. You want some intense story and conflict. Check this out:

It'd be fun for Twi to re-enact Journey to the Center of the Earth.

@ Ginger: I recommend Miles Edgeworth Investigations or something. IDK. There's like 6 or 7 different games and spinoffs now. I've gone through two of them now...

The Hero literally dies. He comes back, yeah, but the bad guy seldum gets to kill the good guy like that.

@Psi It's the VILLAINS being competent is what I'm worried about. I'm not big on the hero losing JUST because HE makes a mistake, they should lose because of the villain's skills too. It's what makes you buy them as a threat.

It's why films like Ultraviolet, Equalibrium and Resident Evil just make me wanna pull someone's TEETH out!!

Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

It's weird seeing Ginger put so much effort into avoiding watching something. I get that he's afraid of getting locked into a TV series that he can't stand, but this is just one movie, so he can't make that excuse. What do you potentially lose, two hours of your time? Tops?
Am I hurting? Am I sad? Should I stay or should I go?

CRISIS: Equestria officially has a tropes page now! It's incomplete as I have to go to dinner for now, but at least I've got it started, right?

I wouldn't be surprised if they did an A Christmas Carol type of episode with this series, especially because it would come with some possibly obvious lessons that could be in a letter to Celestia. I'm not sure who would have which roles, though. The main one I could think of is Pinkie could either be the Ghost of Christmas Present (jolly and surrounded by food, although Rarity as the Element of Generosity could also fit this role) or Cousin Fred (the one who is always trying to get Scrooge to go to his party). Diamond Tiara might work as a rather obvious Scrooge candidate, although having another character in the role could work too and would make for a more unique story if they didn't go for the obvious. However, since Scrooge has a sympathetic backstory and learns his lesson in the story, if they wanted to keep the story as something that wouldn't change anything that happens later, having someone OTHER than Diamond Tiara would be better unless it was implied that she reverted back to being snobby later.

Edit: Another possibly fitting role could be Luna or Zecora as the Ghost of Christmas Future, since they're probably the two "spookiest" characters who are also heroes, but it could also be interesting to have someone who is obviously NOT spooky take that role, like Animaniacs did with Yakko.

Like I said, ginger, the villain almost gets his way. At one point, the kid hearing the story starts complaining because he is absolutely sure there is no way to beat the bad guy and that he has already won.

I am surprised at how long this "let's convince Ginger to enjoy something different" thing's been going.

[up]Thanks for the tip. However, Flutters isn't in my party right now.

@Con: I don't know, I get the feeling that Ginger would not like Wesley at all. I mean, the first half of the movie is basically Wesley being more awesome than everybody else, and I'm pretty sure Ginger wouldn't like that. Not to mention that Humperdinck kinda goes out like a punk at the end.

The Princess Bride is a movie you watch for the humor and witty writing, not for the villains. I will say that both Humperdinck and the Count are much more threatening in the book.

ginger: True but an Invincible Hero can also be so because the villain is incompetent, most cartoon heroes are that way. That's why I like the trope Not So Harmless so much, most of the examples are bumbling goofballs, but a lot of times you think the heroes are coming off too smug thrashing them, they do something clever that makes them shit their pants. In other words they are bumbling and charming enough to like them, but imposing enough you can sympathise with the heroes beating them as well.

The swordfight is what we're there for. We don't need another big climax after that.

And that is why Inigo is a better Dread Pirate than freaking Wesley.

But still, Wesley borders on Boring Invincible Hero for most of the story.

I'm learning that few too many things are watched for villains.

They might as well not exist at all. sad
