@Apple: Oh, goodness. Strap yourself in, you're gonna be there for a while.

I started reading One Piece years ago, and it still took me months to get through the archives.

So what is the character revelation that 20.5 is supposed to explain, anyway?

@Pannic: Agreed. I don't actually care for the 'steady' ships. I like things a bit more unusual and creative. I mean, shipping is about character dynamics. How can you make an interesting character dynamic when it's always. the same. two. ponies?

[up]That... lesbians?

ok maybe MUCH is a bit much, but the part that it directly factors into is the aftermath of Arbu. not the actual incedent there, but Lil'pip's and Homage's reactions to it and each other over it.

but also makes you look at a later event in a MUCH different light.

Which event?

Well Apple, it's a damn good comic, I'll give you that much. I mostly read the big three(That is, Naruto One Piece and Bleach) out of habit, but of them one piece is the still the one I genuinely enjoy the most. Lots of fun characters, funny art style, creative powers and fights... it's a good thing. Shonen at its best.

Shonen doesn't sound that interesting to me.

also, there IS a definite, if subtle change to Lil'pip following chapter 20, and 20.5 shows exactly what caused it. Plus knowing some of hat stuff in there makes homage's teasing's po Pip about 50% funnier.

It shows a lot about homage. Apparently the term Fallen Hero is one she is familiar with and has seen happen over and over again.

Yeah exactly! I've heard nothing but good things about it, and I figure, let's see it for myself!

Shonen is a really broad genre to dislike, considering that the tones, themes, and styles can vary wildly between works. The only real constant is the action.

Maybe I should read 20.5 after all.

@Storyyeller: For the most part, shonen as a genre really isn't. I mean it's repetitive even within individual comics, and by and large the difference between individual series comes down to how they're fighting. If one runs for long enough though it develops a quirk that makes it stand out. In One Piece's case it's both the sheer creativity of the designs and powers, and the fact that it's theme of companionship is pervasive and often genuinely heartwarming. It's helped along by the fact that all of the main characters are fun and well written, and interact with each other in interesting ways.

I don't know what shonen is. (shrugs shoulders)

@Story. I say start reading it. It's actually rather short so if certain things offends you then by all means stop.

ok basics lil'pip questions why Homage would want to be with her, and why so fast as well, homage pretty much admits she just wants to help Lil'pip and be with her while she can because every single other "hero" she's ever known or heard of has either died, or snapped and become what they fought at some point. This quickly depresses lil'pip and makes her question if it's her fate..if any pony can truly live in the wasteland without being corrupted, only to fainlly remeber the YES it is possible, ther is at least one pony that has gone through far far more the Lil'pip could even think of, saw her entire world destroyed, turned into something most ponies see as a monster, enslved and abused for luna only knows how long, been mutilated, rejected, feared, for centuries, and yet is still one of the kindest most loving ponies out there. This gives lil'pip the drive to beleive that yes she CAN make a differnce, and if not, the she will at least NEVER give in to the despair, never cross that line, and she fainally convinces homage that yes, it is p[ossible, the she will NOT become another monster, EVER! then queue Arbu......

though it sounds a lot better in the actual story. and yes i bucking LOVE that whole scene.

Shonen is the vast majority of mangas out there. If it isn't targeted at adults or girls then it's shonen.

Shonen pretty much translated to Young man/boy iirc. yeah it's basicly any work aimed at the younger male demographics.
