Funny Background Event is the closest trope I could think of. It's more of an off-hand mention that isn't exactly plot relevant.

Well on the site, I think we have them classified differently because there's a lot of cultural stuff that tends to appear in Anime but not western animation or vice versa.

I loved the Captain America movie. Red Skull was awesome. Why? Because Hugo Weaving.

I liked Thor more though. It had my favourite tropes in it.

Backtracking a bit, I absolutely freaking hate how the term "Shonen" has come to be used as slang for "boys' action manga." You know that in Japan, Shonen magazines run all sorts of stories, including romance, sports and cooking? So why are only fighting manga considered "Shonen?" It makes no sense.

Anyway.

True, but you do see people distinguish individual styles of fighter. Capcom-style, SNK-style, Mortal Kombat clone...

It probably helps to think of "anime" and "cartoon" as similar stylistic distinctions. They exist for convenience, nothing more.

I have to admit I tried reading One Piece and I just couldn't get into it. And it wasn't just a passing attempt either; I went up to like chapter 100. The main problem for me at least is that I cannot stand the art style. Between the fact that I think it looks grotesque a lot of the time, and the fact that the expressions are so over the top that I can't ever take them seriously, I just don't like looking at it, even if the writing is good. That and I couldn't really connect with the characters that much anyway. Maybe I'll give it another shot sometime.

@Seraphem: I'll probably decide when I actually get that far.

As for the anime/western animation thing, there are more anime that I enjoy, but the few WA shows I watch I tend to like a lot more than the anime. Then again, I read manga a lot more than I watch anime.

I've got a problem with the whole chapter 20.5 discussion - I keep hearing both "well, you don't have to read it, it's optional" and "it contributes so much to her character development." I'm sorry, but you can't have it both fucking ways. My word choice is funny because the chapter involves a double-ended dildo.

the issue is ther are TWO parts to 20.5, the clop scenes at the begining and end, and the Character Development scene in between, it's the middle scene that is what it should be read for, the clop parts are what drive some people away, but while it helps it's not ESSENTIAL, it doesn't really change anything or effect anything directly, it just gives you better insight into the characters and some of there later actions.

I'll also say that I was a big fan of Blonsky in The Incredible Hulk. That guy was fucking badass.

He catches a missile out of the air, and facepalms himself with it! Then laughs
