@Orion: The easy way of saying it: It doesn't. It rains and whatever wherever it damn well pleases, and we just have to learn how to deal with it.

@Ginger The thing is, Skills are just another facet of Character, so developing skills along with characterization makes for better and more complete Character Development. Ignoring one or the other is overall quite harmful to a show's quality. Action oriented shows don't get a free pass on characterization, so I don't see why slice-of-life shows should get a free pass on skills, despite the fact that many do.

The second one is the fake, obviously.

She's referring to herself in the first person.

Clearly, it's a Changeling who doesn't know a thing about Trixie's personality.

@Orion You know like how the weather works in the Everfree Forest? It's roughly like that here.

Only we don't have things like Manticores, Timber Wolves, and Poison Jokes around here.

Yeah... okay, I've got plenty of time. I'm still inside June, I think. July at the latest. That still gives me three months, that's plenty of time.

Wait, so that means I'll have the entire party well within a couple months of then, right? Huh. I guess that makes sense.

[up][up][up] No, the stuff we have is less whimsical and ironic, and more immediately lethal.

@Lurker Then don't expect me to not want these skills to be tested either

For the record, I think Seraphem hit the nail on the head. It's like watching Lord of the Rings and complaining about how Gandalf is cheating by using magic.

[up]I still don't understand why you insist on having skills be tested all the time. It just doesn't make sense in the show for everybody to have to struggle with everything all the time.

@Kegisak: The final party member you get has a VERY narrow amount of time to get their Link maxed. You really need to make sure you have your Courage and Knowledge maxed out before the link becomes available, or you probably won't have enough time to complete it.

So if a character has a sufficiently believable backstory as to WHY they are good at something. Like beging apprenticed to a blacksmith since they were able to hold a hammer has made them super strong... that strength would still be wrong?

Which to be honest, I would've rathered. If it ain't the focus (like you people keep telling me without end) then don't mention it.

except why shouldn't they, one of the biggest drawing points for this show is how realistically the world is portrayed...once you except the whole magical neon ponies thing anyway...the way the girls abilites are portrayed, is just like how it would happen IRL, do YOU stay at the exact same skill level for years in everything? no! why should they? the whole point of the show is seeing the ponies grow and learn, and to do that they need to change. But it's handle REALISTICALLY, not just according to how "The Big Book Of How To Write The Same Boring Trash Over And Over" says things should be, but how it actaully logicaly would be, they don't make a big deal about it, but it's just there.
Build a fool proof system, and the world will create a better fool.

Forget this, I'll do it tomorrow. The assignment doesn't make much sense anyway.

@Ginger Except that they do get tested, just not every episode. Each character has had their skills and abilities stretched to their limits at least at one point or another, and they will continue to do so. You just can't expect them to be constantly.

Oh great, Orion is broken.
I analyze "Geek Culture" here.

I think it's a combination of factors.

1.) The context by which they have this skill
2.) The attitude of the person using said skill.
3.) The people they're undermining by using this skill.

@Ginger: But in RD's case she's not undermining anyone. She's just doing her job completely independently from everyone else.
