Now that I think of it, the plan to defend Canterlot against the Changeling threat was extremely flawed. By simply covering themselves in a force field and focusing on defense, the leave the rest of Equestria open to attack. And with Celestia, Luna, AND the wielders of the Elements of Harmony in Canterlot, there is no one to stop the Changelings from attacking elsewhere. Maybe Celestia sent out the army to protect the rest of the kingdom?

I was under the impression that Changlings where targeting only Canterlot.

Also their defense was based on a "threat made against Canterlot" they had no reason to assume their was a mass invasion of other places underway.

I think the most unsappy and powerful treatment I've ever seen The Power of Love get was in The Order of the Phoenix.

I was thinking they might change things up and have a more Slice-of-life Season opener, like they had a slice-of-life season finale (season 1). I hope not though, I'm ready for more epic.

@condo:I hope that doesn't happen, because I'd like to see more original villains. Particularly since every major villain so far has been much cooler than the last (imo).

@Blue I think they were just keeping Cantelot safe to guard it against the initial assault and to identify what they were up against. Also, Tia and Luna were on the lookout for threats through a telescope. The Shield is clearly selective. If Tia and Luna saw something approaching then they could've reacted to it in any number of ways

A Hercules-style myth where they're a quest of redemption could be really cool. And AJ could do that one actually. She did something bad, even as a filly, feels really bad about it, even as an adult, and goes through a literal quest to cleanse her soul.

So, we've already had Nyx (Night) and Eris/Chaos (Strife/Chaos). Thanatos (Death) is out of the question, Geras (Old age) is hard to make an epic plot out of. Hemera (Day) and Philotes (Friendship) are good things so maybe Apate (Deception)?
