@ginger: Maybe Celestia has power over sun AND moon because the moon derives its power from the reflection of the sun.

I just like the idea that all of Celestia's power meant absolutely NOTHING in that fight. I even have the awesome mental image of Celestia throwing a defeated and badly injured Nightmare Moon around, screaming at her to lower the moon, and NM just laughing insanely.

Celestia's beam was clearly stronger than the queen's at first

but Celestia's love for her people gave the queen's beam more strength.

I know Toph sometimes comes across as overpowered but there are a numbrer of situations that pop up throughout the series where all her earthbending skills ammount to precicely less than nothing and she becomes as helpless as an actual blind girl.

@Chad Then they would have mentioned it. They specifically said that Shining Armor's love was what made her powerful. There's really no room for any WMG's otherwise.

No, it's specifically said to be SA's love.

Look at her face, she's initiated the beam war instinctually I think, she seems terrified by Celestia's power the second it makes contact, then slowly realizes that she has enough power to pull it off.
