He mentioned something called Dumbass In Distress Disorder (not sure if we have a real trope for that which goes by a different name). Where a character who was set up as being competent and independant SUDDENLY becomes useless in the 3rd act.

Um... if she (or he, I guess) were actively resisting, and maybe finding ways to escape on her own, that wouldn't exactly be a Damsel in Distress anymore.

I wouldn't really call this an inversion of the usual 'male hero saves the lady' trope. At least not a particularly notable one. It is actually rather par of the course for any series with a mostly female cast.

I wonder if the form a changeling can take is tied to the life of the person they're impersonating? Like if Cadance died then the Queen's disguise would fail

I'm not sure that the glamour would be that intimately linked to the person it is meant to impersonate, myself Ginger. But I'll admit it is an interesting idea. Are you suggesting that the life energies of the person being impersonate somehow keep the glamour/spell in place?

This was actually my headcanon. Celestia and Luna's parents were both alicorns, so they gain all the massive power that comes with that while Cadence only had one alicorn parent so she's less powerful and ages faster (though she's still more powerful than a typical pony). Her foals could end up as either unicorns or weak alicorns like herself though depending on chance.

I doubt it. It's pretty clear to me that Chrysalis was goading Twilight in the hopes of getting her to attack Cadence herself. I guess she could have killed Cadence herself, but once Twilight showed up, she thought it would be more amusing to trick her into doing it.

...yeah, not exactly a sweet, misunderstood queen, is she?

She was weak because of how long she'd been imprisoned down there. It took a big surge of energy to bring her back to anything like her usual strength again.
