Maybe Cadance is half Alicron? That's why she's so much weaker than her alicorn peers. Luna and Celestia are pure.

So her child would be one quarter alicorn

I rather hope we see Cadenza again. She's pretty cool, actually, and she's got a surprising amount of personality.

I think alicorn-ness is really rare, either it is a very rare gene, or there's something that specifically activates it.

Also, females seem to carry the gene much more often, so maybe you need the allele to be in both X-chromosomes or something for the pony to get alicorn-ness (for whatever reason- from my little information about genetics, I have no idea if this is even possible). So I say that it will be a unicorn. Although it's possible that a girl might be an alicorn.
