Love. My guess would be they trick a pony into falling in love with them through a desguise, the more the pony loves them, the greater they can Mind Contrl them, and the stronger the loe is, the more they feed.

My guess would be the destruction and whatnot was just them both letting off steam, and taking out the only ponies that knew about them and could spoil it. Then they would impersonate those ponies and spread.

@ginger: Well, it's said they feed by impersonating a loved one and eating the affection given to them. So they probably eat emotions. I guess love is probably the most sustaining, or the tastiest.

...In B 4 a fanfic about a changeling protagonist who tries to hide who he really is, but then learns the value of friendship, and that the taste of love freely given tastes ever more sweetly then love taken covetously.

@Seraph: Actually the chaos would have been a good way of slipping into a ponies life - separate them from a loved one, impersonate it, then 'find' them again later.

I made a drinking game. Take one drink every time a changeling OC is written. Two if he/she does a heel-face turn later on in the story. Take the entire damn bottle if it's the Changeling Queen.

Cuz I'm just thinking, ARE the Changelings ALL necessarily evil?

But they seem to create more than just a feeding link, it seems like they make a complete connection. As in, it flows both ways, and the changeling can exercise control through it to a degree. I wonder what that link would be like if it wasn't controlled, but natural.

Well ginger, I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of fanon exploring exactly that. Especially since this is the last episode before several months of no new pony.

I wonder if they can make up their own pony design to change into or if they have to copy somepony else.

Well, the changelings seem to have some form of intelligence, even the Mooks. I mean, they got exasperated with Pinkie Pie and knew to ignore Fluttershy since she wouldn't put up a fight.

Except I have nooooo idea how they can be good if they keep stealing love.

They wouldn't necessarily steal love.

I imagine it's a culture thing, though. Even if they're inherently nice, they're also parasitic by nature. It probably didn't occur to them to have a 'real' relationship with a pony. Particularly given their looks...

They didn't ignore Flutters because she wouldn't put up a fight, they went past her because she was pretending to be one of them.

@ilse I still don't think they ALL steal love. It's just the easiest way.

Actually, I'd like to see a fanfic exploring the changelings psyche as they are in the show. Can you imagine what it would be like to read the thoughts on a race that needs to feed off others to live like that? It's like vampires, except without all the silly crap that gets in the way of most authors.

I'm looking at art of the Changelings, and I can't help but notice they have flutterpony wings...

Perhaps we now have an explanation as to what happend to the Flutterponies...

Or eat it. They eat love. What they need to do to survive is basically detrimental. It's like having a vampire boyfriend who sucks your blo— Wait.... that's a real story-line.
