That is exactly the kind of thing I don't want to see. That kind of reference shows up in fanfics a lot, and every time it does it makes me want to stop reading.

Anyway, I think the main worry that people have with pandering is that the show is fine as it is, and adding in too many fandom-specific references might have a negative effect on the overall quality. I'm all for shout outs, but they need to be subtle and actually fit in the show.

How using lines like "Confound these ponies" in show is bad thing? They allready do this but with alusion to other stuff like older shows, movies, and still it is show for little girls. This time they would use some nod to fans. And they will never turnd this show into shitload of pointless jokes with no appeal to little girls. Sujesting that possiblity is like sujesting they turn s2 into crappy girls show like previous MLP cartoons.

I have complete confidence in the staff of the show. I'm sure they'll find the right balance.

I have found something very Hilarious in Hindsight on Lauren Faust's deviantArt page.

Back in 2008 she posted a poll about My Little Pony, presumably before it was announced she was heading up the reboot (she says so in one of the comments).

One guy, one EddiePerkins, comments with this.. "Since I'm a guy I never had one (so not fair) but I do think they're cute. I liked the 80's ones a little better design-wise. A few years ago a friend of mine bought one because she had had them as a kid. I couldn't help brushing it's hair.

I guess I'm one of those few guys who not only likes cute stuff but will also admit it. ^_^;"
