Speaking of applied maths in physics, and Mario Kart, I remember exploiting how Red Shells turn when they home in on you to snake smoothly between two banana peels and catching the chasing shell on one of them. I then proceeded to string a green shell from the rear bumper and backswiped my rival as I snaked up beside him, sending him spinning aside.

I still have some of this turning/boosting trickery in my head, so I'm extra-scary on certain tracks despite my tendency towards light vehicles.

Aw, yeah, playing delicious old school Super Mario Kart right now.

It's been so long since I actually started calling my AI opponents names, and here I am dropping f-bombs left and right. Feels so good. No wonder I got bored with modern gaming.

Kayeka is learning how to draw. Feedbacks, hints and protips greatly appreciated. The DARK CUBE wills it!

Mario Kart is the only Mario game I like. It's also the only racing game that doesn't cause my eyes to melt from the tedium.

@Kayeka: I had a ton of fun when I was playing Mario Kart DS multiplayer and had my old rival-buddy Dave play, he was nearly as good as me at snaking and had better control over heavy vehicles. The replays of our snaker duels were glorious, and I always backswiped him while we jockeyed for position mid-powerslide because it was nigh-impossible to snipe him with banana skins or green shells.

Both of us had our fair share of wins, so I guess what he overtook me in skill I could grab back by virtue of being technically superior at snaking at snaker-duelling.

The last time I played Mario Kart, I fell off the track 9 times in a single game. There was one particular part of the mine track that was especially evil. I think I fell off that part on every single lap at least once.

@yeller: ouch. I recommend you stick to light vehicles, they turn better and accelerate better allowing you to steer easily and recover faster.

Hey, now, Grimdark isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sure, I don't care for it, but plenty of people do. We even have a couple of tropers here who write the stuff. Just like anything else, it can be done well, and it can be done poorly.

Edit: @Steve And that is how you do it poorly... What kind of sick character warping do you have to do to make that even remotely plausible?

@Dalek: not quite, that one was about Twi needing to claim all the Elements for whatever reason and needing to do terrible things to sever the rest of the Mane Six from them.

Anyway I got grimderp either from this thread or from the Madoka thread.

Also crowlover now you know why Homura deserves serious hugs. Poor girl's been living some kind of surrealish nightmare groundhog day.

@Lurker: what I have little patience for is poorly-done attempts at grimderp that fail to get the actual mood and just end up cheap shock stories. Like the one on ff.net where an insane Twi makes her friends into a Cupcakes style dress.

I thought Rainbow Factory was a good example of grimdark done well. Very unsettling.
