There's a difference between dark and GRI Mdark. Dark is bad but there is a clear resolution and possibly a good ending for heroes. Grimdark is the situation where everybody is fucked and there is no good ending.

In that case just I write dark. Problem is, my dark is dark enough to warrant the grimdark tag on EQD.

Dark is Scoots being an orphan. Grimdark is Dashie torn up over being unable to have children of her own when she wanted, then doing something drastic. Grimderp is like Cupcakes, because the real Pinkie would never do such a thing.

I dont mind Dark, but there is a differnce between dark, or even Grimdark, and just plain mean. If ti's clear the author is only doing it for shock value or there's no point OTHER then the Darkness, no, just no.

I like some dark fiction, but it sounds like Severing just goes for needless cruelty. I prefer my darkness coloured by the absurd, personally. Like Foucault's Pendulum, or The Name of the Rose.
