Ponies definitely are less creatively violent than us because their technology lacks a lot of war-inspired tech.

Sounds like a good enough theory. Of course, the existence of magic might stunt the growth of technology quite a bit as well.

In a way, if you're in a world that extensively uses magic to facilitate tasks, then magic is your technology.

Take the Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, for example.

Yeah it's like the SSC S6k is just a means to automatically apply several different kinds of spells to the apples to make cider without the imput of the brothers.

Yeah, having a variety of spells and enchantables tends to supplant conventional technology.

They also lack radar, thus no magnetrons and no microwave ovens from what I see (They presumably use biogas, coal, firewood, or magic-powered heating coils).

What we talking about?

We attempted a discussion about why ponies seem to be so technologically behind humans, but that kind of died.

And then we just went back to cleaning up all the broken tables lying around.

They haven't got thumbs.

They also don't have anything more advanced than Spike's dragonfire faxes and the telegraph.

I wonder if the Friendship Express is partly magical, or fully coal driven.

I expect the trains are coal-driven, and the radiator ran out on the way to Appleloosa so the engine crew popped out to haul it the rest of the way.

Other known technologies: Automatic Taffy Puller (20th century?), Wooden Blanket Roller Printing Press (Unicorn-powered), Automatic Cider Press with spoked wheels and QC controller switch (Spoked wheels are fairly old technology, the automatic press mechs are most likely magic-powered but should resemble a modern food processor - DON'T GET SUCKED IN), Truck Tires (Vulcanized rubber about 200 to 300 years old tech) and Spring Mattresses (should be fairly recent, up to about 150 years old on average), Balloons (Polymer or Latex Rubber, Latex Rubber being quite an old technology while Polymers are only decades old), uh...

Steampunk may be canon only they seem more reliant on magic. AJ certainly didn't invest in a combination harvester for the wheat fields, or an engine of some kind to drive the plough.

And hoofheld flashlights, and dehumidifiers, and arcade games, and what appears to be a hydroelectric dam.

Dehumidifiers are related to powered ventilation systems and air conditioners (fairly recent tech), flashlights are relatively recent (There are predecessor techs like lanterns and torches, but I'm sure they may have relied on glowing crystals or something, batteries may imply knowledge of electrochemical cells), Arcade Games imply at least hard-soldered circuits (if not full-out printed pcbs and integrated circuits or even microprocessors). Hydroelectrics are evolved water wheels.
