I'm still here.

Ah, well. Good to know some folks are still about.

It's only about 10:30 here. I won't be going down until at least midnight. I've still got plenty to do...

Pro tip: If you are ever working on a large comic, DO NOT tell yourself that you will letter them when all the pages are done. I am lettering 55 panels of comic right now. I normally do four at a time.

I'm just glad I did it now, instead of when I was actually done the comic.

Ah yes... standardized testing and the 'no child left behind' policy. Easily one of the most ill-planned things to come out of America.

Right next to deep fried Twinkies, and Larry the Cable Guy.

I guarantee you'll be exhausted for the test if you don't go to bed soon, David.

I dropped my tables. And now I can't figure out how to undo it.
Don't you have backups?

The test is taken on a computer I did session one today.

If you think the FCAT is bad will guess what? My generation has to take the EOC which is even harder then the FCAT.

Kegi, someone here actually invented deep-fried butter.

... You people are insane.

[up]Oh, it's not the tests themselves that bother me - Canada has some standardized testing as well(Only in English and Math, and only for grades 6, 9 and 12). It's the system that ties funding to the test scores. Proportionately.

It is possibly the dumbest system I've ever heard of.

You have a problem. Let's fix that by taking away more resources that you could have used to solve that problem!

Yeah, whoever came up with that idea?

Oh, but there's a solution! Just teach the kids exactly what's on the test, and nothing else! No, we've got no time for context or real-world application, we've got tests to take!

Well it does in Canada. Some teachers have salaries upwards of 80, 000 a year. My starting wage will be in the range of 30, if I'm lucky, so that gives you a bit of context.

Seriously, I knew teachers that lived in some of the nicest houses in my town. and my town had some nice houses. It was one of those towns where rich people who work in the city but don't want to live there move.

Seriously, teachers are that much better paid in Canada? Shit, a lot of the teachers I knew needed second jobs to be able to pay rent. What the hell.

I know one teacher who made tons of money, but she had a PHD and she had been teaching for ages so she had a massive seniority bonus.

Well, it'll vary from place to place. Provincial average wages tend to be somewhere in the 50 to 60 thousand per year bracket(With Yukon shooting up as high as 90, 000 per year), but that's just average. Most places the teachers negotiate for their constituencies I believe, so you can have fairly low wages in the same city as very high wages.

But nothing so low they can't survive. I mean, they're easily one of the most important professions out there. Jesus.

EDIT: here's a list of averages based on province and length of education. On average wages aren't spectacular, but they're still good. And if you stick around for a while(As most will, I know people who are technically retired and still teach), your wage can get pretty dang high.
