Given all the Alternate Character Interpretation that exists for the main characters that do have canon personalities, I don't think whatever "canon personality" they attach to Ditzy will affect the fandom in the long run.

I think the reason why "retarded Derpy" is so prevalent might have to do with - and I should point out that I wasn't around during the early days of the FiM - the name and fandom originating from 4chan...

What I don't get is why she's usually depicted as a single mother? I myself like to think she's Happily Married to a nice unicorn stallion, possibly Ponet if only because of these two pieces of fanart make me go "Dawww", and together with Dinky they make a quirky family that have fun time adventures in Equestria.

But that's just me.

I think it's just because nobody's really seen a background pony that would really be suitable as Derpy's significant other.

I'm probably behind on the Derpy discussion but I wasn't saying Derpy was stupid, I was saying that there was a video of a potential voice for her that made her sound that way and I didn't like it for that reason.

I agree, I don't think the lazy eye means she's stupid or worse. Genius ditz or cloud cuckoolander maybe, but if she sounds like a five year old with a sinus infection that's not going to help that case at all. Which is why it personally annoyed me that that video became so popular and people declared the voice their head canon Derpy.

Derpy is Dinky's mother. Pokey Pierce is Dinky's father. Pokey Pierce is Trixie's brother. Twilight is Trixie's sister.

If you've listened to EqD's second Q&Neigh, they actually addressed that.

As much as I love AJ, I'd be hesitant to pick her, because we have little to no idea what she does outside of farming. It'd be swell if we knew she were into, say, music. Strumming a banjo◊ and singing songs under the shade of an apple tree on a warm summer afternoon would be awesome.

On the other hand, Twilight. There would be so much nerdy science talk, it'd be almost improper.
