Speaking of video games, I finally got around to playing The Force Unleashed recently. I really don't see what all the fuss was about. Mediocre at best.

Something like that. The powered field generated by pegasus wings promotes creation of lift and thrust, helping boost the natural flight capabilities further. This powered field also lets them to manipulate weather elements through their field effect.

Didn't get enough sleep, yesterday was boring, I successfully succeeded in converting Ilse into the mentally advanced series and Crowlover into Keroro Gunsou so while it was an overall terrible day at work at least I had forum victories.

I always assumed that pegasai magic was in making them aerodynamic, not in actually assisting in their propulsion, with the "bubble" that forms in front of Dash before she pulls off the Sonic Rainboom being the visual representation of that. It basically removes air resistance and shunts air across the wings to generate lift. As for hovering, I'd attribute that to manipulated air currents as well, but in a more enclosed and circular manner. It's just an extension of their weather manipulation abilities.

Their wings definitely aren't vestigial, though. They need to be large and powerful to generate thrust and direct the air forced over them by their magic.

@Lurker: It also allows them to touch and manipulate weather elements like clouds. Also, that overly-buff stallion with tiny wings clearly uses his racial magic to stay aloft because wings that size cannot normally support his build in the air.

Only if their mass exceeds the power output of their wings+magic. I doubt ponies eat such a rich diet unless they get too greedy or are overfed pampered nobles or have medical conditions, though.

Come to think of it, we haven't seen any obese ponies have we? Imagine a Jabba the Hutt-esque pony.

There was a fanfic that made one of Dashie's ancestors into Firefly and turned her into a member of a guild of assassins Assassin's Creed style, and one of her marks-to-be was a grotesquely fat noble pony in the early history of Equestria, during the years before Luna lost her patience and became Nightmare Moon.

I've never seen such a fat pony before because such overweight Terran equines tend to die from health problems, or their human handlers never let it go that far.

Also related: Fluffy ponies, a sort-of meme a leeetle bit like the Touhou Yukkuris, only less creepy except when some evil Anons do abuse art of these poor little ponies D: There's a notable Fluffy Pone named Fluffle Puff who was briefly a victim of Molestia's tumblr.

Yes, there is fat pony art on Ponibooru. No, it's not very pleasant. I am also not familiar enough with pony physiology to know exactly how the fat gets distributed on their bodies.

Trivia: In Perry Rhodan, there was a definite diference between Terran And Earthly.

We can't say "Earth" because "Earth Pony" already has meaning in-universe. That would just confuse matters.

I remember seeing a Fat!Diamond Tiara Tumblr once. It was kind of cute, if slightly disturbing.
