On the other hand, what's wrong with being the best? Although I wouldn't argue that Twilight is the best yet. She's talented, sure, but also young with much to learn. She makes major mistakes. On rare occasions, she has major victories. The most raw talent does not automatically equal the best.

A lot of Twilight's identiy is wrapped up in magical ability, she could stand to learn that it's not magic that makes her who she is, but her who makes her who she is.

Also, nowhere in the show is it ever shown Twi is the "best" at something. She has magic. She uses it. That's her special talent. Par for course. No one challenges Pinkie when it comes to making ponies happy. No one challenges Rarity in terms of making dresses. No one challenges Fluttershy with loving and taking care of animals.

L Mage: ...and where has it been implied that's how she thinks of herself?

That's a good point and even then I am sure twilight wouldn't mind not being the best.

Rainbow would probaly suffer from it the most as she did with Mare do well.

Which is not the same lesson as that there is someone better at magic then she is, and that her friend's like of her or her own self won't be changed by that.

@ginger: Maybe she wasn't. I mean she was pretty much tapping into whatever source of magical power when the Sonic Rainboom happened, which was also tied to her across the timestreams because of Friendship.

...She's not perfect. She's neurotic. She does things by the book, to an extreme. She sometimes overestimates problems. You yourself said she's more than just magic. So why are you dead set on thinking that's her only trait?

My problem is mainly with the appeal (I think. Again, I desperately want there to be a reason for my anger). What's the appeal in a character who is that unshakably powerful with no equal?
