I didn't think it was that great at the beginning, but it definitely got better as it went on.

I have a feeling that I've read this same exact conversation before. Ginger, can I just ask that you watch the episode before complaining about how "OP" Twilight is in it?

I'm now imagining a pony whose special talent is levitating apples. He doesn't do much else.

@Ginger If we want to compare effective power levels here, Rarity's percision control is most likely orders of magnitude better than Twilight's and in this episode she demonstrated some impressive summoning abilities, Rainbow Dash is one of the fastest ponies alive, Applejack is immensely strong and durable, Fluttershy has extremely useful animal empathy and is no slouch in the flight department when the need arises, and Pinkie Pie... well, we all know how you feel about her.

Nopony is being undermined by Twilight's talents.

I'm going to bed in 10 minutes, but I will say the episode improves upon second viewing. Pee Wee is adorable.

Swasfews: The conversation's come up at least a dozen times now. It always starts the same and ends the same way: with no opinions changed and rife for blowing up again the next time Twilight does something significant.

Well, let's have some context here.

Rainbow Dash can fly fast enough to break the sound barrier - she has been stated to be one of the only pegasi in history to do this, and she did it as a child.

Fluttershy can stare down a dragon

Rarity can cast illusions large enough to fill an entire room, not to mention individually and precisely manipulating who knows how many objects, and blend fabric together (which cannot be easy at all).

Even setting aside Pinkie's cartoon powers, which don't count for being rule of funny, she's still got her Pinkie sense, which is enough to overcome or at least predict most dangers, making her largely untouchable while active.

Applejack can harvest at least half her orchard on her own, along with other tasks at the same time - an orchard which spans several miles at least, and is skilled enough to come in at least fourth place at every major rodeo event, which are fairly wide-ranging.

Big Macintosh can pull a house with no visible effort.

In context, Twilight really isn't that overpowered. Everypony else is obscenely talented in one way or another, hers is just the flashiest.

@Lurker: Pinkie is an Epic Level Bard with powerful Perform skills and a terrifying knowledge of Ninjitsu.

If she doesn't have super friendship skills she isn't overpowered. In the context of this show, "overpowered" would mean being unreasonably better at friendship than everyone else. She's not overpowered, just powerful.

EDIT: I think Kegisak summed it up pretty well. Yes, Twilight is better than everyone else at magic, but that's not a problem in the context of the show.

I don't know....I just always figured that non-ponies would be rightfully afraid of Celestia not....rude about her.

That letter has to be significant. It seemed to be given way more time than would otherwise be necessary for the purpose of the scene.

@ L mage...there teenagers, what teenager (of the stereotypical slacker variety) shows any respect for ANY sort of authority?

I'm hoping that the dragons have All There in the Script names (like the Diamond Dogs do) and that we'll get some Word Of God telling us what they are.

and @ OP-ness, every single pony is pretty much a savant level master of at least one field, as well as a very competent in a variety of related fields.
