her spells fail just as much as they help

If fanfiction is any indication, they fail more often than they help.

Could it be that in comparison to everyone else's skills Twilight's power has a disproportional tendency to solve conflicts and be showcased?

How many times has Applejack's apple farming skill solved a conflict on it's own? How many times has Twilight's magic skill solved a conflict on it's own?

@Kuroi Okay then. What do you want me to do?

If I have no valid points and no argument, then something is bugging about this show that I can't quantify in any way. Regardless of everything you people say. Twi showing that much Magical skill annoys me. If I say that, you'll ask why. I give reasons. You refute them It doesn't change the underlying feeling of annoyance.

It's like when everyone went to great lengths to justify Evangeline's personality in Negima! None of it stopped me from finding her fucking insufferable.

[up][up]Outside of Boast Busters, I can't really think of any case where Twilight's magic fixed the problem. The conflicts are almost always social; you can't really fix them via any sort of skill.

Mage: Not all that often for either, really. Or even for the rest of the main six. They usually have to work together.

Everypony in Equestria has their own badass factor? Makes sense if you think of them as being distant-future descendants of the ponies who survived Dream Valley and Paradise Estate. They killed the Dark Emperor Tirac! They survived the ancient superweapon Lord Smooze! They survived several breakdowns of the world and the climate disaster that was the destruction of Flutter Valley. No wonder the modern Equestrian Ponies are so much tougher than our Terran ponies.

@ preview, is it just me, or

1. does that "highland reservoir" look like a big puddle and WAY to samll to have enough water?

2. this prove Cloudsdale is mobile.

[up]Maybe it's just really really deep.

@Ginger: It's fine if you feel that way; but all we ask is that you stop complaining about it every time Twilight uses her magic for something.

In this episode she teleported them away, she gave Rarity wings in Sonic Rainboom, she transported herself through time last episode...

Twilight uses her magic A LOT to further or solve the plot, the same can't be said of everyone's else's skills.

When was the last time that Applejack's farming abilities further or solved a plot?

Ja, what Japanese Teeth said. I have my annoyances with this episode as well. For instance, I disliked how much Spike just randomly cried. I'm probably not going to bother arguing it though.

She did do quite a bit to help patch things up between Rarity and Sweetie Belle.

[up] Spike's clearly a very young Dragon whelp, I'd cut him some slack for being depressed about not knowing his biological kin or birth-family very well.

But that didn't make use of her farming skill, just her general goodness.

@L Mage: Like I said before, the structure of the show means that most conflicts are based around personality rather than skill. The central plots are always more about characters flaws than anything else.

Plus, AJ is indeed the element of Honesty. Twi is the element of Magic.

except only one of those solved any problems. rarity's wings turned out to cuase a bigger one. And the whoe time travel created the problem it was supposed to solve.

Yes she got rid of the Ursa and got them away from the dragons, but fights are not the conflicts this series is bsaed on, those can't be solved by magic.

@JT

Any yet, Twilight's magic is far more showcased then any other special talent, in usefulness and general skill.

Ginger: Well, then it's clear that you just don't like Twi's magic, even if there's good reasoning for her to do what she does. Which is fine. People are rubbed the wrong way by things, sometimes for no quantifiable reason. It happens. I think the problem here is your failure to acknowledge it and MOVE ON. Everyone has pet peeves, but if you're going to bring it up every time Twi does magic and rage about it with no new arguments to bring to the table, it's going to look like you're just trying to be antagonistic and start a flame war.

EDIT: I got ninjaed so hard by Teeth.

Mage: That's because Twilight is in a lot of episodes. Much like Pinkie. Fluttershy and Applejack, less so.
Japanese Teeth avatar
#128674 from Meinong's jungle
@L Mage: That's because in season 1, Twilight was the main character. Season 2 spreads it out a lot more. Not to mention that yeah, some skills are more generally useful. Doesn't mean that everyone else is useless, especially when said skill has a tendency to backfire.
