It's just one of those episodes where you think 'this could have been a lot funnier'. It's not horrible or cringe enducing, it's just not done to it's best potential.

I think that was the goal. My friend wanted to go to school while legally insane just to see what would happen.

ginger's theory was that the ponies willingly got their memories wiped after these instances, so that the Mane 6 wouldn't have to deal with rabid fans.

Those were temporary lapses. Everyone has moments when they momentarily regret a decision, doesn't mean they don't think it's the right one. The mane cast want to become famous under their own power, not because of magic rocks that were fated for them

ginger, as I said before, I like the theory.

The idea was that pony popular culture was linear enough that it could only be focused on one thing at a time. An addendum was made that specified that the Mane 6 would have cult followers, but most of Ponyville would forget about it when the next fad came along.

I only condone mind wiping if it's 100% consensual. Anyone who doesn't want to do it, doesn't have to do it.

but therein lies why I love it, ponies are so inherantly good (albeit knowingly weak willed and reverent) that almost all would be WILLING to go along with it for the sake of the mane 6

I like it because it's an absolute display of (fallable) goodness. and it warms my heart just thinking about it

I still think all these elaborate theories are a bit too, um, elaborate. Ginger, aren't you the one always espousing Occams Razor?

I always just assumed that Celestia played down exactly how big of a threat Discord was. Ponyville probably got the worst of it, the rest of Equestria just had to deal with cotton candy clouds and cola storms. Celestia gives them awards for stopping Discord, which most ponies interpret as getting rid of some inconveniences and move on with their lives.
