I just realized, Twilight Sparkle being related to Shining Armor makes her getting a car to drive to his wedding make a bit more sense.

Well, I'd say it isn't really casual if access to the spell could potentially be restricted and there's no guarantee most ponies even know the existence of time travel spells.

Yeah Rarity, Allie Way or Fleur wouldn't be able to do it.

But it's more casual than being a single use spell that ONLY works once every thousand years or so (which is what I had in mind)

Concerning the earlier comments on Twilight (I can't keep up, this thread gets 20+ pages about every five minutes), I admit that looking at bits of season two like Lesson Zero and this, Twilight comes off a bit ditzier and over the top than the first season. A few other characters seem Flanderized a tiny bit in S2, Rainbow Dash is a bit more of a Jerk Ass and a Commander Contrarian while Applejack is more of a secondary Straight Man, it may just be a cluster of samey episodes however, I'll have to see how the next season ends up to see if it progresses that way.

Maybe I just prefer Twilight's ditzy moments because I so expected her to be the generic 'normal' pony of the group at first. Seeing her do highly flawed wacky stuff proves she's not a boring character, though I do hope they keep it balanced with logical moments (Secret of my Excess did well with this for example).

More casual, than that yes, but not necessarily the sort of thing everypony knows about or could perform, Ginger. To be honest though, I was a little irritated it was readily available in the Canterlot library.

Well here's a question then, does TV Guide have a reputation of screwing up articles?

From what I've heard this is the first time they've even mentioned MLP.

I'm now of the opinion that they will prevent plot holes not by it being a rare hard to do spell, but by having all time travel in Equestria work like that in The Dragonriders Of Pern where changing the past is impossible, because all time travel is a Stable Time Loop any attempt to travel to the past..has already happened in the past.

Funny thing how some people called Twilight "typical boring protagonist" less interesting than others.

I don't really care how time travel works here. Most time it's headscratching or even full mind screw. That why I prefer to turn of logic about this one.

Well I'm sure they'll find some way to limit it.

Yeah, I love Twilight's dorky moments, though I do like her sane ones as well. A good balance is so hard to keep with female leads it seems. They either end up complete Know-Nothing Know-It-All JerkAsses or living embodiments of Positive Discrimination. I was dismayed how Sally Acorn (who was very similar to Twilight early on) became duller and blandly overcompetent as time passed for example. At this point in time however, Twilight is a rather complex and adorable character.

I like Twilight and Spike's chemistry all around because it's rather even sided. Rather than just 'one Only Sane Man babysits the Too Dumb to Live Jerk Ass' both characters trade the Idiot and Sanity Balls rather evenly and you get a good idea how much they both depend on and value each other. This complex form of chemistry is very rare in cartoons.

We don't really know enough about the spell itself to really say. All we know is that it's apparently so obscure that not even Twilight, who basically has the job of studying magic, knows that it was even possible, and that it works for maybe 30 seconds tops. Even if one assumes that she could cast it at will (which I doubt) it's still really limited in terms of use, especially if all it does is cause a Stable Time Loop.
