What brought this on is that when the song was first leaked, there seemed to be nothing but love for the song. But now that it's been officially released, everybody seems to hate it.

Me too. I haven't heard anyone complain about the son, just about Pinkie Pie and maybe her actions. But everyone seems to enjoy that song... ><

As for Twilight's brother thing, there's a video on Equestria Daily about it. It has been pretty much confirmed. (Although I guess it's possible for it to be a typo from TV guide?)

Umm not a hoax, and I do not see ANY typo that could result in "brother" being added. Mis informed writer or writer making shit up, sure, but a typo is just hitting the wrong letter, or not hitting a letter.
