So, I was thinking about making one of those AMV hell esque videos, where they have a bunch of 10 second AM Vs and/or comedic clips all relating to Fi M that play one after another. The ideas I have so far for the clips are:

The very beginning clips of the Winter Wrap Up song set to Bohemian Rhapsody (y'know, because they have the spotlights on them like in the BR music video?)

Some Celestia clips set to Here Comes the Sun

Some Rainbow Dash clips set to some kind of Sonic related thing (haven't decided what yet)

Applejack clips set to an Apple Jacks commercial

One of TF2's Meet the Team video with Fi M clips

Dungeons and Dragons: Satan's game by The Dead Alewives with Fi M characters playing the roles of the characters in the audio

On the note of darkfic... I don't have an issue with character death if it's handled well (and that includes Anyone Can Die-style deaths, up to and including Killed Mid-Sentence - for most fandoms; I'm still feeling out my limits for FiM, though it's not really something I care to explore that closely).

For instance, the two-parter "Centerpiece of My Collection" is about Spike as a young adult, and later as an elder dragon - and the centerpiece of his collecttion is (spoilers aren't shocking, just a bit sad): Rarity, who's elected to have herself petrified so that she can be beautiful forever. At the end of the second part, Spike frees her - which she's upset about, in true Rarity fashion - and they lie down together and die peacefully when the spirits of the other girls come to them. I have no issue with that, especially given that it was beautifully written. But getting gory about it, or killing ponies randomly...

These ponies dont need to see Gordon Freeman yet. Its not time.

Really, it's only a convention of the fantasy genre that would allow Rarity to have any reaction at all to being unpetrified, since when the vital processes stop, starting them again is... unlikely.

^^Yeah. Spike's an elder dragon by that point, and Celestia explains that petrification pretty much just slows down vital functions, so Rarity's aged about to the end of her natural lifespan in the millennia she's been statued.

Also, wait until you get to the end: Once Spike and Rarity have left with the others, Celestia uses her magic to incinerate their bodies along with Spike's hoard of diamonds (that I think he kept for Rarity, but I'm not sure). She compresses the ashes into a dragon egg, which she will keep until the reincarnations of the seven are born again.

Don't be ashamed, man. Let it out.

Now you see, I found that ending heartwarming and hopeful. What gets me is when people die slowly, and are happy when they go. Like the thing with Bitter Sweet that made me tear up was Pinkie singing a mounful reprise of Giggle at the Ghostly on her death bed it reminded me of the reprise of Somewhere That's Green from Little Shop of Horrors

Well, yeah, it is heartwarming. It's also sad... but it's heartwarming because it's sad, and beautiful because it's sad too. I tend not to wax poetic about fanfiction, but the tone of that particular ending appeals to my sensibilities quite a bit.
