True, but I meant I don't think she's ever gotten into a fight with whatever lives in there, or would be that competent if ever she was attacked.

I don't see why people insist that the forest is evil, I thought the idea was that it was just an extension of the way the ponies treated Zecorah. It's MORE dangerous sure but they mostly hate it because they don't understand it

and yeah seriously, FUCK Story of the Blanks (shiver) That fireplace scene STILL freaks me out

I think the reason most ponies are freaked out by the Everfree forest is simply because they don't know how it functions. In Equestria everything is controlled by the ponies, so the fact that everything in the forest is unpredictable probably weirds them out.

In other other news, does anyone else think that one of the stills from Pinkie Pie's freak out would make a better image for the MLP Nightmare Fuel page? I'm not entirely sure that Flutterage is really considered scary, while Pinkie's psychotic break really unnerved a lot of people.

Their attitude toward it was established in the pilot - in fact they also said that "nopony who goes in has ever come out". Plus the existence of creatures such as cockatrices and manticores makes it profoundly dangerous even if there's not some sinister presence.

Which, for the record, I don't think there is.

As for Story of the Blanks, people have said it's like a ponified Silent Hill. That's bullcrap, it's the exact opposite. Silent Hill isn't scary at all.

The manticore was only ever malevolent because of an outside influence, other than that it was real docile. You got me on the Cockatrice though XD

I'm assuming your thinking that the shot where her eyes move apart is the one we should use?

Agreed, Pinkie Pie's breakdown was freaky, Fluttershy's was hilarious.

Yeah, the cockatrice is the only actively malevolent creature we've seen. The dragon and Ursa were both just mad about being disturbed.

I'm assuming the Ever Free Forest is sort of a natural preserve whose purpose has become lost over time.

Celestia let it return to nature, after shaping her society to maintain and control over everything, but left it natural, for reasons unknown.

@Rich Nope, you're going to have to spell it out for me in fine print.

I think the Manticore was only really docile because it was in pain just a moment before Fluttershy came up and helped it out. I think any pony not with Fluttershy running into the Manticore might be in trouble because I can't imagine the Manticore being too happy about other creatures intruding on its territory.

What did it even gain from Rockinizing people anyway? I certainly don't think it was for food

If it was going to be violent anyway, there'd have been no reason for Nightmare Moon to put a thorn in it's paw in the first place

Well it does have the ability to unpetrify creatures. Maybe the way it hunts is to petrify creatures to create a food supply and then unpetrify and eat them when it's hungry?

Also, something that puzzles me. Where did the association of Luna with socks come from?

I don't know, just as I don't remember the line that led to "Scootaloo as a chicken", and I have no idea where "Rarity as a marshmallow" came from. It's a good thing someone linked me to edits of the night train scene so I could pick up on "I'd like to be a tree" the second time around and actually get that joke.

I think the marshmallow thing started because from certain angles that's what her hooves look like.

"Scootaloo is a chicken" comes from "The Stare Master", I think, and Rarity Is A Marshmallow is because she's usually the squishiest-looking of all the girls and she's white - thus, marshmallow. And yeah, because her hooves look like marshmallows sometimes.
