E Ps could carry far more than the others, their sprint meter lasts twice as long, they jump further, and their upgrade powers are the most varied.

@Badwolf: There are several scenes that canonically show Earth ponies with epic tier Green Thumb. Smart Cookie had it, and if blood carries true AJ herself has it. It also explains the instant fermentation of the cider

Earth Ponies have more fun with diversification and broader skill trees, also they get bonus skill points and if you get lucky with an abstract or difficult to read Cutie Mark you might even be a wildcard with all the skill trees possibly associated with your CM :D

I'm not. They can make things grow faster and in a lot more climates than normally but they can't make things instantly grow or they would.

There's been one. In a play.

In Granny Smith's flashback the non Zap Apple trees aren't instantly grown. Appleoosa has taken about a year to grow their orchard to first harvest.

Zap Apples are xenobotany we don't know all the details of. For all we know only Granny has deciphered their strange and capricious nature.

That's a heck of a lot faster than it would take normally. Even if they can't grow stuff instantaneously they do it a lot quicker than you can in the real world.

I've never heard derpy/derpy as a mean term. it's normally used as a synonym for "Duh"

The fact that the Apple Family seems to have a monopoly on Zap Apples supports this.

So Earth Ponies can make plants grow quickly, as long as the plants have evolved to do so. Not helping your argument.

Imagine what Earth Ponies from an Asian climate could do with already-fast-growing bamboo.

Earth Pony lovingly strokes bamboo sprout as they set it under the side of a boulder

Said sprout mushrooms into a massive column of bamboo within seconds, pushing up from under a boulder and forcing it aside

The Appleloosa deal is simply because they're starting with "dead" trampled ground that needed to be nurtured until it become usable and developed topsoil that could sustain crops properly.

The thing with unicorns/pegasi/earth ponies reminds me of stuff I see in the OotS thread. I imagine that since the earth ponies don't have magic or flying, they have been exercising and studying instead and thus get naturally higher base strength, constitutition and agility (or however you want to call the stats) plus bonus stats to allocate how they please. If you wanted, you could even say those bonus stats come from not putting anything into the magic or flight stats, so unicorns and pegasi have to split their stats more, meaning they'll probably never catch up in terms of speed, strength and endurance.

Of course, that's useless in terms of the show itself.

You know what I want? A pony MMO. Like, a real MMO, not one of those half-assed fan projects.

I prefer playing the wildcard angle, which makes Earth Ponies more varied and capable of skill combinations no Pegasi or Unicorn could acheive because they also need to focus on their magic/flight.

I see the Erath Ponies as being the most connected to the land and bound to it, they never really over produce and they always give back to the earth, in various ways, rather then stripping the rescources. Think of the Flim Flam brothers, the ripped whole trees out of the ground to make more cider, the didn't give a flip about what happend to the trees themselves so long as they where getting what the wanted.

Oot S probably isn't the best comparison, because in 3.5ed D&D, Wizards are better Fighters than Fighters are, once they gain a couple levels. And Druids beat both at level 1.

They can tap the power of the land in ways no Pegasi or Unicorn could even imagine. It's the ultimate class that is totally designed for them.

Concentrated EP magic, yeah that works too :D I also think it the best power because instant hard cider. Unicorns have to be content with bootleg Moonshine or machine-made stuff, and Pegasi need to set up climatically-controlled stills. All Earth Ponies need to make good booze is a decent equipment rig and their natural EP magic to make instant fermantation possible

Storyyeller: I just meant in terms of dump stats and your base stats. Basically, the earth ponies get higher base stats and since they have no class features that utilize magic or flight, you never have to invest a single point in them.

Giving them magic powers like a Green Thumb seems kind of like it's missing the point to me.

I agree with Arha.

They always had a power of their own, according to Lauren Faust. She defined their magic as one in tune with the land or something like that, iirc.
