The Turtle plot from MTBPW has been done before too. Didn't stop them from using it.

That plot hadn't been used in Fi M yet though. Meanwhile the ending you suggest would end up being exactly like Applebuck Season, and similar to "The Last Roundup" both episodes featuring the same character. The writers aren't that lazy.

Pretty much every time they've used a common plot, they've done a pretty good job with it. "Sisterhooves Social" is a pretty good example.

I doubt the mane cast will have anything to do with the actual competition. They'll probably just be there to support AJ, and maybe investigate if it turns out the bros are cheating.

There's a difference between "Using a plot that's been done in sitcoms and other media" (taking the Tortoise and the Hare plot and adapting it to MTBPW) and retreading ground that's been done before on the same show and with the same character.

Actually, do we have ANY confirmation that a machine will be involved? Or are we just extrapolating from the title?

The title is basically telling us that a machine with that name will be involved, I expect that ponies tongue tying it will be a running gag.

The machine will probably be some wreck that works fast and well but will never live up to some ancient honest family technique the apples have.

Hey, does anyone think Scootaloo is going to get an episode this season? Both of the other CMC got one, so it seems likely, but again, there aren't many episodes left, and Fluttershy hasn't even had one yet. I'm pretty neutral on Scootaloo as a character, but that's why I'd like her to get an episode, so I can decide whether or not I like her.
