Hooray for Derpy theme!

Just got into this series today. I kinnnnnda wish that the whole " Night Mare Moon being a legitimate threat" thing hadn;t been dropped so quickly...but it's still enjoyable fluff.

And I just finished watching "Bridal Gossip". Nearly died of laughter when Fluttershy opened her mouth.

So I watched a few minutes of this show...

So frakking adorable.

I expressed in another thread that I wondered if Terak and Skorpan  ^*

^{villains from the G1 cartoon's pilot episode}

would show up. Now I hope they don't—they just have no place in this newer, cuddlier version.

I first watched this out of boredom when it was posted on 4chan's /vp/ board and I saw the second half of the first episode.

T_T jesus christ it had better plot, messages, special effects and characters than almost anything else I've seen. Why do I like this show? I'M A GUY!!! I was so depressed that the magic was for one episode only, and then it became about young girl's problems. BUT STILL!

GOD EVEN THE RULE 34 IS AWESOME!!!

That said, every time I go 'that's ridiculous' I have to keep reminding myself 'it's for 6 year old girls'.

There is. Lots. Damnit 4chan. I'm pretty amused with the little meme-series concerning Rainbow Dash and Applejack's sex life though.

I would never have thought to watch this on my own.... I blame David Willis.

Anyhow, about a week or so ago I finally gave this show a shot...

And it makes me crack up laughing. Without fail. I suspect there's only so many times I can watch Applebuck Season before it starts to get old, but I haven't reached that number yet.

Makes me wonder if there will be a reference to a certain unicorn, with that particular song Jimmy Harted into it.

You know, I wish they have done more to the cast filler of ponies there. It like they're just there just to prevent it from being a ghost town.

Previous shows showcased how lively cast fillers are. Like, dare I say it, ... Sponge Bob Square Pants.

Eh, I don't mind having the focus be on the main six ponies (and the occasional secondary character or guest star), at least for the moment. It helps keep the humor more character-driven, rather than being "random extra comes up and does something ridiculous".

Nothing could be better than that. Nothing.

I will still watch this. Edit: Oh God, they went with a flat style. I'm getting sick of this type of style. I never liked it. However, the premise seems nice.

Oh, Faust worked on Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary friends. I understand now. Somewhat. Still, I think that worked better for those shows and the particular way it was pulled of was oddly flat in a different way than this. My Litte Pony is known for it's Candy-shaded Puni Plush.

But yeah, despite being incredibly disappointing in terms of drawing style, mostly being flat(it's still big eyed, bright, and cute). This is a lot of fun to watch. It really is hilarious, well paced, and generally amusing to watch. And I...

There were also the evil flowers, the psychotic dog-shaped stone golem, a red Ctulhu (no relation to Red Hulk, I swear), more witches than you could shake a broomstick at...

That... really sounds pathetic. What's next, a personification of pure darkness and evil gets its ass handed to it by a pink blob?

The only thing that really bugged me about the 80's show were the Flutter Ponies. I think moreso in the Movie, cause even though they were the only ones who could stop the Smooze, they wouldn't. And cause they seemed overpowered. : The TV show kinds fixed it by having them get captured occasionally and less as deus ex machinas.

They were really pretty, though ^_^

Re: Flutter Ponies: The G1 show actually seemed to be in a big hurry to neutralize its own deus ex machinas. First TV special introduces the Rainbow of Light, which kills Satan. Second TV special? The catgirl addicted to the magical heroine shows enough foresight to STEAL the Rainbow of Light before it can be used against her. Movie? The evil superweapon FREAKING EATS THE RAINBOW OF LIGHT. Then the Flutter Ponies are introduced as the new deus ex machina. First TV episode arc, the multi-parter "The End of Flutter Valley"? The Flutter Ponies get captured by the bee people who get creative in order to neutralize their powers while they're held captive. (They still got to play cavalry at one later point in the show, but...) Second TV arc? Introduces the insanely powerful, nigh-omnipotent Flashstone, which the red Cthulhu uses to flood the valley. The heroes take the Flashstone back, use it to fix the damage...then destroy it, just to be on the safe side.

Just watched an episode. Actually found myself liking it.

...I'll turn in my Man Card now.
