Evil!Twilight: couldnt she be from a universe where Princess Celestia is a baddie, or at least the insensitive Trollestia of fanart?
That's closer to my idea for a mirror universe story: Twilight Sparkle gets stuck in a divergent timeline where it was the older sister who went mad with power and wrongfully imprisoned her younger sister, and while the corrupt versions of the main cast launch an unsuccessful coup against Celestia based on what they heard their alternate selves did to Nightmare Moon, our Twilight has to make new friends and free Luna from the moon to settle the score. Hey, anything for a chance to work in Light Is Not Good and Dark is Not Evil!

That sounds feasible. I personally liked someone's idea of the 'Power Corrupts' plot.

@Crowfall and Erik: those are both pretty good possible explanations. I might attempt to continue the comic using each of the new training ground themes. Might. It would likely result in a Pinkie Pie level of incoherence of narrative, which would be fun. On the other hand, I would kind of like to try to continue the story seriously.

I've noticed that the forum has quite a few quiet spurts (especially since I had a few days off last week and was monitoring pony things more closely than usual).

Actually, there was an update on that just yesterday I think. Voice actors and G1 villains redesigned for G4!

Also, my OCD is taking over me. I want to talk about background ponies.

A while back I added Lyra, Bon Bon, and Doctor Whoof to the Background Ponies section on the character page in an attempt to try and get things a little more organized and separate the ones with multiple tropes associated with them. I was editing the Others section again when I realized our favorite DJ now has three tropes! I was about to add an entry for her and thought "Wait, where is this going?"

The list of characters is already huge, especially with the background ponies. It might be a slippery slope to start giving entries for characters with only a few seconds of screen time like Vinyl Scratch. However I noticed there's a bunch of tropes that could be grouped up by itself that are shared by all/most of them.

Basically what I'm getting at is, should be have an entry along the lines of "Shared by all of them" similar to the "Shared by both Princesses" in the Princesses section, and start adding separate entries for the others? At least just the most popular/prominent ones?

well, that 'other' section seems to cover most of the general tropes in and of itself. Unless you meant giving each notable background pony their own section, regardless of how few tropes they exhibit, and grouping the communal tropes beyond that? I dunno, maybe I can't read today, or something.

Also, I hate to change the subject so abruptly, but this just occured to me and it's going to eat away at my brain unless I bring it up. Just how much of unicorn magic is based in physics? I don't mean how well does it follow real world physics, I mean do physics apply at all? Like, does a unicorn levitating something recieve the force of it's weight? If that were the case, lifting the ursa minor should have sunk twilight into the ground. But, she did show a lot of strain, whether it be physical or mental...so is the force simply dissapaited? It looked like she got pushed back a bit too...and for that matter, I actually started wondering this because I wondered if a unicorn could fly by levitating themselves.

About the The Hub bussiness state....

Its actually bad. QUITE BAD. It means that its operating below expectations and that they cant even pay for animated programming that ISNT theirs.(Thats why Deltora Quest left the channel.)

I really hope that they Find an audience soon. They are AWESOME and I think the channel deserves more love.

wait. Deltora quest. Deltora quest had a cartoon?

That is amazing. Why have I not heard of this? I loved those books!

I doubt Hasbro will let the show die off; the market opportunity is too good.

I think The Hub is hampered at least in part by its reach not being on par with the channels it aims to compete with, which also have the advantage of being longer-established and printing money. I haven't heard about any attempts by Discovery to boost distribution (probably because they seem busy bitching about OWN and bragging about Discovery Channel and TLC).

(Apologies if this post is stupid)

[up]x5 Well it did look like Twilight was digging in while lifting the Ursa, but I just took that to be her reaction to mental exertion. Also, if lifting heavy things with magic does have physical feedback I have to wonder how literal "raising the sun" is. As for lifting herself, if she could do that I imagine she would have used it to escape the hydra in Feeling Pinkie Keen.

I assume Unicorn magic is a lot like the Force. This would make Twilight Sparkle (and Rarity) the pony equivalent of a Jedi, thus awesome.

I imagine Twilight has to be really "in the zone" to levitate herself, because she's got to concentrate on where to use the magic, but the feeling of being lifted could be distracting enough to break her concentration... Maybe?
