I just want to love the E Ps, but you guys are always making it so hard with your criticisms and such.

Y'know, I think I would've ben happier if the Earth Ponies had absolutely NO magic or heightened physical abilities. That way they could've been a race of Badass Normals. The way things stand, E Ps have magic, but it's inferior to Pegasi and Unicorn magic

I usually forget about their supposed innate magic so usually think of them as badass normals anyway.

Ginger, I think you might be thinking about this the wrong way.

Can Earth Ponies fly? No. Can they manipulate the weather? No. Can they use magic, or even just basic telekinesis? No. So of course they must be inferior, right? They must be incapable of surviving without the superior races to back them up, right? No.

They get along just fine. They don't have any wings, or any magic, but they make do without. They handle things perfectly without being able to grip it. They adapt rather than manipulate. They do all the same things that the other races do, without all their advantages. Sure, they do have some magic, but it has a pretty specific purpose. Most earth ponies don't even use their racial magic day-to-day - more than you can say for the other races, most of whom are almost reliant on their magic. Take away a unicorns magic, what have you got? A clumsy earth pony. Take away a pegasi's wings, what have you got? A weak earth pony. Take away an earth pony's magic, what have you got? A goddamn pissed off earth pony, who's fully capable of kicking you across the horizon.

Now, think about this: Could a unicorn use a rope with only her tail? Could a team of pegasi pull a thousand pound train hundreds of miles? I don't think so. Earth Ponies might not be able to do everything the other races can, and maybe the other races can do a lot of stuff the earth ponies can - but they can't do it half as well. Earth Ponies make up for their lack of range by being h=just plain better and what they've got. Magic or no, they're still Badass normals of the utmost degree. Hell, I'd actually say offhand that the earth ponies are the superior race, simply because they have less to work with. I do not fear the man who has practiced a thousand kicks once. I fear the man who has practiced one kick a thousand times.
