I also view myself as an outlier furry. I've actually become soured on a lot of labels I would apply to myself if I hadn't met the lunatic fringes of those labels and didn't know that they represent the most visible portions and thus the most common perception of those labels. For instance, I hate admitting that I enjoy anime to people simply because it will automatically color their perceptions of me in ways that are untrue.

@Red: Aheh... my dad went to the university of Manitoba for agriculture, then dropped out and worked at a laundromat, a railways station, then as a trucker and finally winding up as a power engineer at a chemical plant. So no, not really harvard material. He and I are simply bizarre that way - Intelligent, clever and enjoy learning lots of new things, but pick careers where we don't need to be. Although my job at least has the benefit that I can use all the weird shit I learn.

funny that that's harvard's unofficial motto, though.

Nothing's really outright soured me to the fandom to the point I've wanted to abandon it, though some of the more risque fanart has caused me to roll my eyes or in some rare cases wonder about to whom the artist was trying to appeal. I've also been a little irritated with the amount of vitriol some of the fanbase spews. Not here of course, but elsewhere.

No, I don't think I've seen anything that bothers me about the fandom as a whole. At least no one specific thing. The tendency to meme voraciously at the drop of a hat bothers me, as does the occasional sexualization of the CMC, but it's those things alone that bother me. Never the fandom in and of itself.

I'm not enthustiastic about ponies in general, they're just another "fun little thing" IMO.

But I don't like the sexualisation or the creepyfication of things. But that's just how I feel of things in general.

The way how the show is a Fountain of Memes is a plus though. I do like my odd and nonsensical sense of humor.
