I think part of the issue was that Rarity basically didn't
care what Sweetie thought - all of her advice, her offers and so forth were based around the idea that the nicest thing she could do was to teach Sweetie to be more like Rarity.
And that's pretty jerkish.

It's not the hindrance that's the big issue, it's Rarity's assumption that being like Rarity is the best thing ever and that helping people be more like Rarity is good.

I'm really not sure what the problem here is. "This pony needs to be more like
me" is stunningly arrogant even if that pony has in past shown admiration for you.
Rarity's fatal flaw isn't greed, it's her ego. It
leads to her greed since such a beautiful
rock gem is
obviously meant for Rarity. It leads to her narcissism kick in Sonic Rainboom. It leads to her treating Sweetie Belle like any steps away from her being Rarity mk 2 (rather than, say, Sweetie Belle mk 1) are BAD and WRONG and must be STOPPED. It leads to her belittling Applejack in LBYS since Rarity would want to keep things clean and pretty thus anyone who wouldn't is
not like Rarity and that's BAD and WRONG too.

@Ace You may have accidently typed that second word with your face there...
And now it is fixed so this post is now invalid.

She was also complaining about it when they had a job to take
down branches and Rarity was putting them
back up because they made the streets so untidy.

Behaving realistically =/= not being a jerk.

Both of them could have handled the situation better, but I'm willing to give Sweetie a little leeway in her behavior because as a child, she doesn't exactly have a grasp of how to resolve the situation an adult should.
Wow, you're right! Trixie does slip into the first person after AB's reveal. I never noticed.

Exactly. Rarity gets more criticism because she's expected to know better.

I think Rarity was in the wrong more than Sweetiebell in Sisterhooves Social. The thing is, children tend to learn from experience what they are and aren't aloud to do. Through out the opening, Rarity was berating her sister for making a mess of things. As such, Sweetie figured that cleaning Rarity's room would be a good thing.

Trixie is being a jerk, but only in insults and showing theose photos (I do want to know what they were...). While her motivevation is likely vengence, she is only doing her job. I don't think she would break the law to do so.
