Admittedly because Rarity tends to call herself out on when she's being a jerk. She always knows when she's doing something bad, and she feels bad about it. And in the end, she always owns up to it of her own volition, not because somepony points out that he's being a jerk.

Rarity has always been kind and genorus, sure she's vain and a drama queen, but never once has she been in Alpha Bitch. Her friends where unhappy with her gift to them she wasn't all "lol to be bad" she busted her but to make something they would like more even when it violated her artisitc sesnablitlies. Her friends embarsse her infront of a crowd of elite ponies and she stands by them instead of turning on them. She realises she made a mistake with her sister and attempts to make things better and right, and feel guilt about what she had done.

A Libby would never have done these things. Just because Rarity has all the trade marks of a Aphla Bitch dosen't mean she is one. Because well...she's not a bitch, unlike RD. Whats more she has always been more then the shallow "boy's and fashion!" girl, just like Pinkie Pie is more then "crazy parties!" and AJ is more then "hick steroytype!"

EDIT: Oh...I seem to have misread Fran's post. My bad! But I still think Rarity is best pony and all of the above holds true.

look at Over a Barrel in comparison to TMMDW, both episodes being Dashie-heavy.

I blame Dashie's mishandling in MMDW on Merriwether Williams. She can write Pinkie just fine, but damn, she's no good with Dash. She was much closer to her S1 self (and much more bearable) in "May The Best Pet Win".

Still not seeing it, and personally I kind of liked the way Dash was portrayed in TMMDW (ending aside).

I never said Rarity was The Libby. I'm just saying in situations like when she thanks Celestia endlessly for her room and doesn't spare the Bell boy a glance or when she (admittedly debatedably) convinces Spike to give up his gift to himself, she never suffers retribution.

Rarity is an intentional subversion of all the libby, alpha bitch, fashioniesta cliche's. She's given many traits and elements that your standard example of one of these would have, yet her overall personality is pretty much the exact opposite. Generally in shows people with her general intrests or in her roll in the story always end up being some sort of horrid cliche, Rarity is the writers proving that you CAN have the love of fashion and high class attitude, without the snobby bitchy Libby-ness.

I'm saying that Merriweather Williams is a very talented writer (her Spongebob episodes are, as far as I'm concerned, considered the best) which means that writing the entire episode so that it would showcase Dashie's flaws and ignore her positive traits is a concious effort from the writing team.

I am pointing this out again: S1 Dashie abandoned an incredibly important competition to save someone. S2 Dashie abandoned a pony in need to write some autographs or whatever. Different characters.
