@Fran: Ow, my deep feelings go to you sad. Best wishes for getting well soon!

(Weird coincidence, I too was almost involved in an accident at home yesterday. Accidently dropped a heavy piece of cupboard onto my dad's nose ridge O_o. Luckily only a little blood, nothing more, but that could have gone REALLY bad.)

I've been transporting a lot of furniture from one of my mum's workplaces lately. Nothing bad's happened so far but I'm always paranoid (as you know)

Damn, figuring out the logistics of carrying a wide couch through a door is stressful [lol]

How do Equestrians transport furniture? (as in how do they carry it through doors and place it down inside the houses) I imagine it would be very awkward and difficult if they didn't have a unicorn on staff!

[up][up] Haha, just read the Sofa Fan Fic. In it, Derpy also had problems transporting heavy stuff and accidently injured Davenport (and we've seen her drop stuff before). So yeah, unicorns might be the best choice, however, we should also consider their weight limitations for telekinesis.

Hmm, Earth Ponies might have a strongness advantage. And if the Tactile Telekinesis fanon on pegasi is right, they might do well, too.

Now there's some tasty fanfic fuel.

I'm imagining they usually build three sides of walls up, cart in the furniture, then put the last wall up.

I've never really been a fan of the tactile telekinesis theory (despite all the evidence there is for it) because it completely negates the supposed strength advantage that E Ps are supposed to have.

Hmm, Tactile Telekinesis isn't a trope yet?

[up] I can understand that, Ginger. I'm neutral on it, never really thought about it at all before reading about it. Small point: as a Tolkien fan, I'd extend the Dwarves' boons to the Earth Ponies, so not just pure strength, but also stamina, endurance, toughness and resistance.

Plus they're the only ones that can grow food. That's important!

They're the best at agriculture, yeah.

It still strikes me as odd the Unicorns and Pegasi don't indulge in agriculture of their own, unless they don't even have arable land or are just too stuck up to get their hooves dirty.

[up]If we take Spike's comment literally, any attempt to farm by a unicorn or pegusus is doomed to failure.

[up][up] Yeah, I thought the implication was that the other races physically CAN'T grow things.

Oh, they can. With all the skill of a gangrene thumb.

So no odds of a Unicorn with a botany-themed Cutie Mark?

If they like cataloging plants, sure.

Alternative, one of the rare individuals with cross-class skills. It probably happens occasionally.

Well, I remember hearing the Mane 6 talk about the Everfree Forest as this crazy scary place where *gasp* plants grow by themselves. Pegasi and Unicorns might be able to forage food from such wild areas, but only Earth Ponies are capable of actually growing food in pony-controlled lands.

It's like nature itself is banished from any place where ponies live, leaving ponies in control of everything. But only ponies of a given type can control a given aspect of nature.

Trixie summoned a bouquet of flowers in Boast Busters.

... maybe Trixie teleported it in from somewhere else? Or maybe unicorns can't summon anything EDIBLE from the ether

[up]I'd say she teleported it. Heck, she might not have even done that. Magicians in Real Life can summon flowers from their own ass, but that's still probably no real magic.

Yeah, but where did the flowers come from? She doesn't exactly have any sleeves to hide them in, and her stage was pretty barren. Not to mention the flowers appeared in the air a little bit away from her

Fine, teleport it is. Which I think is quite a feat for a unicorn, though. Well, Trixie WAS pretty good with magic. Just not as good as Twilight.

She's the only unicorn we've seen teleporting anything besides Twilight, right? (if she IS teleporting the flowers that is)

I still say Trixie's weak but skilled. When it comes to RAW power she's nothing special, but she's capable of learning a wide variety of spells.

You keep using that phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I mean she doesn't have a lot of RAW magical power. She can LEARN a lot of spells and pull them off with an impressive degree of finnesse, but she doesn't have the magcal strength to make them as powerful as Twilight can. It has nothing to do with skill, it's to do with strength.

just a hypothetical example to show you what I mean: Trixie can summon a thunder cloud with her spell. Twilight could summon a thuder STORM with the same spell.

If magic were to be compared to a water fight. Trixie has a water pistol, and Twilight has a dual barrelled Super Soaker. Your skill in using them is a big factor (someone with a water pistol can beat a super soaker if his opponent is crap enough), but the person with the bigger gun starts out with the advantage

I really hope you guys know what I mean. I fucking hate needing to explain myself because no one ever understands me!

[up] She's only Weak, but Skilled in comparison to Twilight. Next to any other Unicorn she's actually really strong.

[up] We don't know that either way, because we don't know the raw strength of any other unicorn (including Trixie) She's probably stronger than Sparkler though.

I just go with Weak, but Skilled because I think those sorts of characters are cool

[up] Doesn't Spike talk about how most Unicorns are weak and can only use one kind of magic?
