Haha, Mage also loved the bat the most ^^. I think that's one constant among pretty much everypony here.

Also awaiting Mage's reaction to the next one ^^. Btw, Lurker, you summarised the problems with it very well in your last post, mainly the problem that since you couldn't have crime being stopped, you had to pile on the disasters.

Thoughts on episode 8 S2:

Eh. Not that bad.

RD annoys me as always, but she didn't do anything I would say is out of character for her to do in this episode, so my annoyance is mitigated. Everyone else was spot on, not over the top or to subtle in their characterization. The jokes where good and had me laughing (Grannysmith esepcaily) and the pacing was fine, though a bit disaster heavy for Willing Suspension Of Disbelife.

Did the same person write this episode as "Owls Well That Ends Well"? Because I get the same feeling from both, a kind of "stock plot and lesson".

Once again our asepon has little if anything to do with friendship, this bothers me much more then last episode but not nearly as much as it could. I'll let it slide for now, but I hope it wont carry on or I will become tempeted to bitch about it.

I'd call myself, more than anything, a "Mane 6 first" fan. Meaning that before playing favorites or unfavorites within the group, I'm happy for each of them being there because they form the absolutely essential core of the show's dynamic and you need everypony for that. Pretty much the same with Harry Potter for example, I'm indifferent to Harry (The Hero's always boring), don't care a lot for Ron and love Hermione, but I acknowledge that we need all three and as a unit, they're awesome.

I'd call it the hallmark of a well-writen series. If it was badly written or characterized, we'd indeed have characters that are so bad and superfluous that more could be gained fom losing them.

(EDIT) Oh dear, wrote too long and got right into the middle of the ensuing tsunami of conflict.

@Mio: I think it's Hype Backlash in reverse. We made it sound so horrible that when he watched it he realized it wasn't that bad.

@Fell: I basically feel the same way. Yeah, there are some ponies that I like more than others, but I don't dislike any of them, and I think the show would suffer if you took any of them out.

Really, my biggest problem with "Mysterious Mare-Do-Well" was the fact that it makes RD look way more jerkish than it had to to get the point across. I can totally believe RD's head getting that big, but the fact that she gets there so fast and spends the whole episode like that felt like overkill.

But moving on, because IT'S CHRISTMAS!

And I totally got Skyward Sword and the 3DS, so I'm going to be MIA for a day or two. The first half of my season 2 overview will hopefully be up in a day or two.

Oh. Rarity is my favorite pony. Mostly for Suited For Success.

She is one of the few examples of a drama queen character done in a way that doesn't make her an asshole.

What's wrong if she's occasionally an asshole? Most good characters have SOME element of jerkishness to them. As long as it doesn't overshadow their good qualities

You did not read my post well. I am referring to the fact that commonly, divas or fashionistas are characterized with that archetype, and it makes them an asshole.

Rarity is not. If she does act like an asshole, it is for entirely different reasons.
