It's a relaxing and unremarkable Christmas. I'm going to answer another question, do a Christmas picture, and then I have to go to work. Now I hate people in the context of them going to the movies on holidays.
I analyze "Geek Culture" here.

Spike seems loyal enough. He was already the new Rainbow Dash once, let's make it official. And permanent. (kidding)

Re: Humanized pets (continued)

Aloysius is the wiseacre with two college degrees, and usually sleeps during the day. And probably runs on coffee.

Winona is a cowgirl type, and arguably a better element of loyalty than Rainbow Dash could ever be.

Angel is a tough little squirt, but he's nice, once you get to know him. He may or may not be some sort of mafia don... depends on who's askin'.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hearth's Warming, everyone!

Let us celebrate this time of goodwill and cheer by having a good old fashioned argument.

It's a tradition, or an old charter, or something.

@Applelight: Heck yes I am. Again Skyward Sword + #DS = [lol]. The only reason I'm on here now is because I'm burning some new music into itunes.

From what little I've played so far, it's pretty sweet, although I admit that I have a pretty solid Nostalgia Filter on Wind Waker as well. We'll see.

And now I want to see Ponified Zelda and Link.

Just something I'm curious about:

Since I never really got into The Elder Scrolls games, would it be considered acceptable to refer to Dragonshy as "Flutterskyrim"?

[up]IT's generally accepted that that's the case for it, yeah.

I'm having a pretty good day, all around. I don't have all the family over until tomorrow, so this is sort of like a christmas dry-run, for me.

[up][up]That'd be cosplayer, L. A Crossplayer is when someone cosplays as a member of the opposite gender, so unless you're attempting to imply something about Sweetie...

I'm more familiar with the RPG context of the word crossplayer (that being someone who plays a character of the opposite gender). And there's nothing wrong with that.

[up] Let's not exaggerate: there's nothing wrong with it if you do it well.

It becomes a problem when you play a female character because male bisexual stripper ninjas don't turn you on.

So, random topic. How do you guys think magic actually works in this setting? While the vagueness of how magic works in this show is probably intentional, Twilight pretty much outright stated that it had internal consistency and rules in "Feeling Pinkie Keen".

(Warning: incoming headcanon)

Because magic seems to be naturally occurring, it almost seems to me that magic is some sort of field force, like gravity or electromagnetism. Without any disturbances, the background magic is balanced and evenly distributed, so it has no effect on the world. If something disrupts the field to concentrate energy in one place, the flow of magic to and from this concentration as it attempts to regain equilibrium creates the various magical effects seen in the show. Unicorns are able to use their horns to actively manipulate the flow of magic to cast their spells. Other ponies passively manipulate the field, assisting flight with Pegasi and enriching the earth with Earth Ponies. I like this better than magic simply being powered by life energy or some similar source, otherwise Pegasi and Earth Ponies would be drained constantly by their passive abilities. Unicorns get exhausted from overuse of magic because it takes a lot of concentration and effort to channel the energies around them. It also allows for innately magical objects and places to exist without a power source.

Anything is wrong if you don't do it well. If you do it poorly.

But admittedly, crossplaying is one of those things that are easy to do wrong, or for the wrong reasons. Depends on who's playing, for the most part.

I like that theory! You should post it in the Fannon Workshop and see what they have to say about it.

Thoughts on episode 9 S2:

I liked this epiosde, it was fun, the song was solid, and the plot was good. But I have a few qualms:

Wait a gosh darned second here. I thought the Grand Galloping Gala already happened, is the order of the series that screwed up?

Why didn't Rarity just say she was friends with the winner of the best young flyer award? Thats prestigous, and it was an event where Celestia was at so it makes sense. Unless that hasn't happened either yet.

Fancy Pants was funny (any huminzations of him?) but was that woman hanging around him in the begining meant to be a hooker? If so, props to the Getting Crap Past the Radar.

I spy Prince Blueblood! If this happens before the Gala then why wasn't Rarity all up in his grill? If it happens after why didn't she react to him at all? Or him to her?

And that letter....That means that this is after Discord's defeat, so that should place it after the Gala...right?

Favrorite part of the episode: Party Cannon!

[up] Fall Weather Friends is set in autumn. It's two episodes after Winter Wrap-Up. I'm pretty sure anyone older than four knows which order those seasons go in, and it ain't the one those episodes are in.

I think they were assuming the Hub would pull a Fox on them and scramble the episodes a la Firefly.

[up][up][up] The Gala is a yearly event, so they're talking about the next one. And yes, the lack of a solid timeline is kind of weird, but for the most part the continuity doesn't really contradict itself aside from seasonal inconsistencies.
