Dashie getting the entire point of her life taken away is soulcrushingly sad and nothing but an awfully angsty fic can be made out of it.

It is true that most great stories so far have been sad, but by the time a second dozen with the exact same premise arrives the idea loses all attraction, you no longer feel compassion, you only wonder how is this fic different from the other 23.

Twiight and pinkie (return of harmony and feeling pinkie keen)
Rarity and Applejack (slumber paryy episode and the cutie mark chronicles)
Rainbow dash and Fluttershy (sonic rainboom, dragonshy)
Celestia and Luna are also opposite in personality.

Okay, so We have a wanderer, a nutjob that refuses to speak, good enough so far. So I'm guessing Check up is , like Flutter, cares about those around them and wishes them well, but unlike fluttershy, is extroverted and outwardly mean despite what he actually feels on the inside because while while Fluttershy may deal with her insecurities by hiding away, Check up does so by lashing out?

Here's a good example of Check Up:

FS will nervously enter a room and apologise for bothering everypony...and ask them for help...but only if they want to give it.

Check will stride straight into the room, loudly proclaim that he needs assistance, and actually drag the ponies out with him, regardless of what they were doing.

Fun fact you don't care about: there is a Russian Spiritual Successor that is arguably grown up to be better than Scrubs in some ways, but it is pretty much completely impossible to translate.
