If Check Up's mauling traumatized and embittered him so much, does that mean his original career of choice involved flying? Maybe an aerial para medic or something

the foils are a group of male ponies very similar to, but slightly different from, the mane six.

Foil! Rarity for example is a blacksmith named Pig Iron...born to upper class parents...he dropped out of Collage to 'slum it' and open up his own workshop. Is uncouth and vulgar...but still generous and hammy like Rarity. Uses his metal bending magic to create beautiful metal works of art.

Pig Iron is the best example of what we mean.

I'm doing some editing to the wall o'text I got on the doc. I'll need some ideas for Knightly Orders, I'm only coming up with Luna and Celestia's personal guard details, which you have to be e member of an Order to be a part of.

Stuck some blurbs about Militia functions and such. Less evil-souding than "army", I guess.

Well, Check Up (Foil!Shy) was attacked and mauled by an animal, ruining his wings and rendering him unable to fly. This traumatized him so much that he developed fear and resentment towards all animals. I figured his original career of choice involved flying

Yes and no. A Foil is a character that's meant to contrast with another, in order to make them both look much more distinct. This is usually done by making them opposites, but there is often a similar trait connecting the two. An example is twins who are Different as Night and Day: they may have many similar qualities, even beyond their appearance - they might both enjoy sports, but they like it in different ways. One might be a very aggressive, a football quarterback, whereas the other might be very defensive, a lineback. The similar parts give them grounds to be compared, while the opposites play up the traits more powerfully. In essence in order fro someone to be considered a foil they must both at the same time be the same, but opposites.

Rarity did some wierd techomagic wing thing, so a steampunk variant might not be that far-fetched.

And I'm dismayed that broken-wing RD fics get sumarilly trashed, while a fic about Twilight losing her magic abilities gets a free pass. Unless the RD ones are mostly mindless wangsting and drivel and badly written, that is.

IT'S THE SAME THING. They've both lost the ability granted to them by virtue of being their sub-species. It would be like losing part of your identity.

Someone needs to do justice to a broken-wing RD fic and do it right.

Foil! AJ is a pony trucker named Big Rig. He's a huge, powerfully built earth pony who can tow cartloads of timber and logs weighing dozens of tonnes. He's an honest, hardworking salt of the earth pony like her. Unlike her, he's affected with wonderlust...he hasn't been to his howntown in years. He's also Canadian...eh. A friendly, talkative rambler.

Foil! Pinkie is a Pizza Pony and Street Entertainer named Chuckles. He's a lean, acrobatic Earth Pony who is just as wacky, kooky and random as Pinkie...but never speaks. He can do a vareity of performance acts like juggling, unicycling, dish spinning, tight rope walking, flame eating and mime. And thanks to the secrets of an anicent order of mimes...his miming is not as imaginary as you would think. Has a cheeky, snarky parrot to do his talking for him...but with a mind of it's own, it often gets him into trouble.

I'm pretty sure it's because that's what most of them were (at least the ones being submitted to ED). Wangsting

and the ratio of bad ones to good ones was too great.

How many of the fiols actualy have physical discriptions beyond cutie marks? For Check up I was thinking a blue coat with white mane thought I'll admit that only came to mind because I'm a fan of Scrubs.

I like that combo. There's a pun there too...he's always blue.

Also, see how the mane six are lightly coloured...and twi is dark?

Maybe the foils can be darkly coloured...and Foil! Twi is bright? Like white or silver?

Didn't we decide that one of the foils (most likely Check Up) was going to be a bit older? Say around Cheerilee's age.

Also, can someone alter Check Up's profile? We'll need to remove the fact that he's fearless

Here's a thought: Since the Foils are male, and males tend to have more natural colorations, they'd be more black, white, ivory, tan, brown, and muted hues of other colors.

Or soemthing.
