Evening, everyone. What's up?
Some drivel I wrote about a Royal Militia, then stuff on secret Orders, and more Foil stuff.
Order of the Crescent Moon
And a bit about Applejack losing her (admittedly nebulously-defined) "earth pony powers".

Cool. How's the foil stuff progressing?
Something being a kid's show is a shaky excuse at best, I'd say.
Although it's a good explanation for why people find it easier to gloss over the details.
Which isn't to say we don't still analayze the hell out of it, sometimes.

Just about every shared universe suffers from this.
Yeah, I can agree with that. Probably the reason anime often appeals to me more easily than western works do.

Here's a better reason then "being a kids show"...
Bellisario's Maxim.
So there's a few plot holes if you overthink it, so a few minor things change from episode to episode. As long as watching the show is an enjoyable experience, it doesn't matter.

Actually, one other thing to note is that it's not, for the most part, a show with a story and continuity, but an aesop-of-the-week cartoon that's meant to be viewable in any order (in theory).
So plotholes probably come more easily, but they're also easier to dismiss, for the same reason.

The not-very-defined magic inherent to earth ponies. Presumably growing plants, among others.

I don't know about there being plot holes. The setting is very loosely defined, so it may just be that there are things we haven't seen yet. The only real inconcsistancy I can see is the Pinkie Sesne, and that could still be explained in some way or another. It's possible that magic could be alive and erratic, often resulting in ponies with odd powers, for example. Speaking of Wild Cards, It might be funny if every so often a joker power just showed up. Jokers where the ones with the really shitty power, like levitating pennies, right?
As far as the art vs. entertainment debate, I actually feel that art and entertainment are not mutually exclusive.
@ L only when your not looking, if your actually paying attetnion to the thread waiting for new posts, none happen, you get distracted for 20 minutes and come back, 5 new pages. Still working on fine tuning the wording in my quantum thread theory.
@ Ginger, I know how you feel, sort of. My last year of English in school, I got a teacher that was ALL about the meaning behind the authors words, interpreting everything, what hidden meaning there was in this or that etc... Now keep in mind I was pretty much unanimously voted class book worm in the senior yearbook, I was ALWAYS reading something and everyone knew it. So most of the class that year consisted of everyone else sitting back and listening as me and her argued over whether being a good and enjoyable story mattered more then the "true meaning" of a work.

Spot-on-the-wall magic.
Imagine if
that was your special talent. Making a spot appear on the wall. Not even permanently.
