@Mousa Oh, OK. Sorry. I guess I got a bit angry. Sorry for lashing out, really.
@pvtnum 11 Think about the situation. Rarity has always dreamed of live in Canterlot. It's where she thinks she and her business can truly thrive, happy as she is in Ponyville. Where she thinks she belongs. She's always acted like someone in high-society, and is certain that she'd fit right in. I mean, her segment in "At the Gala" calls back to this, where she's convinced that she can prove herself to be "just as regal" as them. And, I mean, once she breaks past their bullheadedness, she
does thrive in Canterlot high society.
But, in her very first encounter with high society in Canterlot, what happens? Another Ponyville resident, acting like the worst aspects of any "you might be a redneck" joke, sours a couple of locals on her and her work, with the main point of their dismissal being where she comes from. Her self-image, shattered by a stinging comment and a haughty huff. Imagine how that must have colored her decisions for the rest of the episode. It clearly made her begin to think "admitting I'm from Ponyville = bad for my standing in Canterlot". Jet Set and Upper Crust hamstrung her confidence, which is
why she felt the need to lie later. If she'd been thinking in rational terms, if her meeting with Jet Set and Upper Crust hadn't happened, she wouldn't have thought twice about Rainbow Dash's identity.
And she was reminded of how bad that thinking is by the end of the episode.
