AJ's purpose in life is to stay in Ponyville and manage the farm. I'd say it makes sense that she'd be the one most wary of changes to the status quo. She was raised in Ponyville, and plans to stay there for the rest of her life. From where she's sitting, there wouldn't be much need to learn about the rest of the world. It doesn't interest her.

I'm probably entirely wrong, but that's my interpretation

Yeah, I think RD's respect for AJ is based almost on her athletic skill and work ethic. I kinda hope that the show isn't going to bother messing with potential racism between the pony races, just because I can't see a good lesson coming out of it that couldn't be done other ways. Like if they wanted an episode of one pony being jealous that another pony having some unique skill, they'd probably use a skill that isn't race-specific. Like RD is jealous of Rarity's ability to play piano or something. The other thing is that pony races aren't really analogous to real-world races anyway. In real life, the differences are almost entirely cosmetic or cultural, but in the show the different races clearly have very different abilities.

Wait...are ya'll seriously considering Applejack and Apple Bloom southern? They're ponies from a magical land. Plus the accent is somewhat forced sounding to me.

Like, what happens if they cross-breed? Is one trait dominant or recessive compared to the others?

Is an Alicorm the product of a Pesasus and a Unicorn in which both traits managed to exhibit themselves?

Or is it that an Alicorn has Pegasus/Unicorm offspring?

If that, where did Earth Ponies come from?

Oh, how about this: In the beginning, only earth Ponies and Alicorns existed. Unicorns and Pegasi are the product of cross-breeding the two. Due to some strange thing or another, pure-bred Alicorns are now much rarer nowadays, while everything else is plentiful.

Ascension to alicornhood requires a superpony development of the self and/or the talent(s) embodied by the Cutie Mark, like the espers in To Aru Kagaku No Railgun raising their abilities to Level 6.

Hence why I said that Alicorns would hvae to be one of the original sub-races. Horses were the other species. The eventual result was what we have today.

Ooo, wouldn't that be interesting? A pure-bred Horse shows up in Ponyville. Same physical size as an Alicorn, but pretty much just like an Earth Pony.

Don't want the ugly aspects of race - racism - here. I'm more interested in the 'how does this work' angle.

They're just putting pieces together. AJ is a Southerner, southerners are generally typically portrayed as more racist, Zebra is meant to be a "black" pony(?) I suppose so they see it as AJ making some sort of Magical Negro perception of Zecora.

As am I. An actual "horse" would be fascinating.
