what if he wasn't such a great flier (average at best), but he's amazingly good at playing the guitar (electric...erm, magic(?) of course! )

See, Dash strikes me as a pony who can't stand being shown up, but she loves praise. So, if Gibert could fly as good as her, she might be resentful. But if he can't, but praises her estacticaly (and blasts out a guitar rift to back it up), Dash might blush...

That's a weird thing about Dash, she can give earnest praise to exceptionally talented ponies, but instantly becomes defensive when they actually start showing her up

She celebrated AJ and proclaimed her to be an amazing athlete. Yet when Fall Weather Friends comes around...

@ Applelight Normally I'd like that idea, but the way I'm interpreting RD in my fic she can't fall for someone unless she considers him an equal (not in a formal "you have to defeat me to marry me" way though). Plus, Him and Gilda end up doing a double rainboom as part of one of the major plot points.

Sure thing. This is my big project I'm working on. I'm going to be submitting the first chapter and prologue to EQD as soon as the cover image is finished. I didn't commission it or anything, I just found his WIP version asking for critique.

Do you think RD respects AJ more because she's an Earth Pony?

I know we haven't seen any racism between the pony types yet, but I get the feeling that RD would be the one most likely to consider her race SUPERIOR to all the others. I don't think she'd recognize the EP's strength or subtle form of passive magic as an advantage in any way, so from her POV, the fact that AJ can be as competent as she is might qualify her as a type of Handicapped Badass

just a thought

way I see it, RD has no problem praising another pony, or admitting there good. Until such time as the other ponies abilities are being compared to hers, then she can't stand anypony being better. As long as the other ponies abilities are being judged in a vacuum, or compared to anything NOT related to RD she's all for giving praise where it's due. But the instant there's even a chance the other ponies abilities may be compared to her, she'll do whatever she has to to make sure she comes out looking better.

I dont think RD would really see being a pegasus as being better. Rainbow Dash sees Rainbow Dash as being the best type of pony, wouldn't matter if she was a Pegasus, EP, or Uni.

@Ginger: Yeah, if anypony is likely to be a bit racist it's probably her. I imagine she'd never really say it out loud, though. Like, maybe she knows she's racist, but can't help thinking that way.

I still say it would make for a good episode, but I guess they've already filled their 'racism is bad, yo' episode quota. They're probably not going to touch it within the three main races.

@Seraph Which is weird because RD also has a very narrow scope of interests. Most of those being things that she's highly skilled in herself. So it's probably pretty rare to find something that's capable of impressing her WHILE not threatening her ego in any way either

Please, let's not start the "pony race superiority" argument again. I think RD respects AJ because she's a great athlete, among other reasons.

@Syd I wasn't arguing which race was better. I was merely thinking that RD might personally think that Pegasi are better, and by her standards, she might think that AJ's playing with a biological handicap. Making her more worthy of praise
