I'm torn about that scene, because to me it looks like an honest to Celestia canon shipping scene. Everything about it would be enough to declare them in love with each other if Spike were another pony of legal age.

Logically it can't be, but that's what it looks like.

Age really is an obstacle, I unfortunately doubt Rarity reciprocates. But it was very sweet nonetheless.

Dragons age differently to normal ponies (as this episode proved) so I don't think we can apply concepts like age of consent to him.

but that's just my opinion and I know it still weirds some people out. I was on the fence before, but with this episode I've become COMPLETELY fine with shipping those two

I'm still not sure why everything interprets that scene to mean that Rarity reciprocates his romantic interest; yeah Rarity considers him a friend and cares about him, but it's in a platonic manner.

You know what, I'm starting to think they did this on purpose to freak out the bronies, revenge for all the crap we've given them.

So more of a "I already know how you feel but it was brave and sweet of you to admit it to me"

@JT I'm not shipping them because of the falling scene, I'm shipping them because I now know how dragon aging works, and to me their potential relationship has stopped being creepy... in any sense (and I didn't think it was all that creepy to begin with)

I would love them to be together too. But I am sure it would be too controversial for a kid's show to pair a baby dragon that still lives with his mother figure (twilight) and an adult pony that already has a job (in fashion).

good question. But given that she lives on her own (as opposed to sweetie bell) and some clues , she might be the eldest of the mane cast.

For instance Twilight is still a student and Rainbow Dash should be at school ( but she abandoned it), they must be younger.

I was guessing around either 17 or so. But either way an adult would be suitable. I do know for a fact that fluttershy is a year older than pinkie pie. So I just assumed that the girls were in their teens.

Anyway, it's true that Spike is a baby dragon, but he's older than the Crusaders at least (no I am not saying shipping the Crusaders is okay). My point is that he's going to be physically young for a very long time, so that even when he is mentally developed enough to have an actual relationship, he'll probably only technically be a juvenile dragon (as opposed to Rarity, who's an adult already).

I've said before that I assume the girls to be around twenty or twenty-one. On that scale, I place the Crusaders around eleven or twelve, and Spike's around twelve, probably.

I've always thought of them as being in their early twenties myself. They're all 21 except for Fluttershy, who's 22.

Exactly! Physically, Spike is either gonna be a baby for a VERY long time (probably until after the mane cast have all died) or he could be an adult tommorow. Their method of aging is just too weird, and mentally, I think he's mature enough to have a proper relationship

Rarity is old enough to hang out with the high class society old ponies from canterlot so she might be older. For example

In fact her episode in Canterlot showed her to have a bit older behavior. She was invited to a lot of adult events for example, like the charity auction.

Rarity's portrayal seemed mixed.

Earlier scenes in the episode made it look like she was trading affection for gems.

Later scenes in the episode made her seem like a more kind, if not genuinely affectionate character. (Former doesn't imply the latter, though, as she could just be acting affectionate toward the end to spare his feelings and all.)

Never.

A flawless character == a character no one could ever relate to.

Besides the mane cast, the kind of ponies Rarity likes to hang out aren't very young to be sure
