I analyze "Geek Culture" here.

Having worshpiers seperate gods from powerfull beings.
But yes , we don't have 100% proof that Celestia is god for ponies. But she is closest thing to god in this show (not to mention having job of raising sun and moon).

I don't be offended if they confirm that Celestria is really god in pony religion.

That sounded more like she was using a megaphone. The RCV gives you what sounds like a second voice, not to mention the insane amount of wind it causes.

She must have had it on the 'low' setting.
^Do the Ewoks worshipping C-3P0 make him a god? No, not at all. He may be a god from their point of view due to
Sufficiently Advanced Technology (or because he's shiny... no, it's because he's shiny), but that doesn't make him a god.
Anyway, we've never seen Celestia being worshipped. People love, respect and fear her as a
monarch, not a goddess.
Basically, she may very well count as a goddess in terms of power, but she's not worshipped and has nothing to do with any sort of religion.

@Random: Except that no ponies in the setting treat Celestia as a god; they treat her as a monarch. The only indication of worship is Rarity's "With Celestia as my witness" line which a. is a shout out, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt, and b. might just have been used because there's no actual deity in the setting for Rarity to swear by, so Celestia is the next best thing.
There
has been at least one instance of a phrase that uses the word "God" being repurposed to use "Celestia" instead.
Not to mention that their history reads like a good old fashioned
Creation Myth, and apparently nobody was aware that she was the elder sister from the story (even though, considering her job, it's totally obvious).
I have a message from another time...
It reads more like a native american 'how this happened' story than a proper creation myth. So in that respect they could be seen more as spirits than proper gods. The native americans respected and venerated the spirits, but they never worshipped them. At least, no canadian tribes did, as far as I recall.
Well, OK. Maybe not quite gods, but they're quite literally living legends.
I have a message from another time...
@Death: My classification for a 'god' has two requirements: power above and beyond a normal being (which may also include immortality or other
Required Secondary Powers), and worshippers. For instance, Accelerator from
To Aru Majutsu no Index is an extremely powerful psychic with the power to redirect force vectors. When I say 'extremely powerful', I mean he
can slow down the Earth itself to punch people with the added force. But since no one worships him, he's not a god.
Celestia is similar. She's very, very powerful, but because nopony worships her, I wouldn't call her a 'god' in the usual sense. As I've said before, she and Luna are much more like
kami from Japanese mythology.

Funny. See, when I think of Coyote, "god" is the first descriptor that comes to mind, right before "troll". I suppose it's all a question of semantics.

I've never really considered that something had to be worshiped to actually be considered a god. On the other hand the term "god" is actually pretty vague and encompasses a lot of different entities.
"
Are you a god?"
"Well, that's a good question. I do have near-supreme powers, and my abilities are beyond the ken of any mortal creature, but nobody really
worships me, so I'm not sure if-"
"Then
DIE!"
I have a message from another time...
^Actually, when you put it that way... yeah, I may have been off in my definition.
...Now that I think about it, I appear to have been arguing for the exact opposite of my position. =| Celestia and Luna can definitely be called gods without being worshipped. It's the connotation of creation that isn't needed.
...Yeah, am I an idiot? That's exactly what I shouldn't have been arguing.
