I wouldnt know, I make her Indian, black does not make sense to me at all, and Ive only seen it in like 20% of the ethnicTwilight pictures ive seen; the rest settling on Japanese or ambiguously brown if not Indian. I thought it had More to do with her having the darkest coat in the mane six and people were finally deciding variety was in order.

No problem Fells, I was intruiged by it too and it's fun to share.

Now you can listen to Rarity's fangirl squeal from the last episode FOREVER!

Time stopped, yesterday.

Do you think Fancypants may be Canterlot's mayor? It would explain his cutie mark (crowns for statesmanship) and extreme importance in the city's social circles.

[up] Nah, he's just the king of the Canterlot underworld, runs the upper class and... I've got nothing for the third crown.
What's the worst that could happen anyways?

[up][up]Actually Black makes sense if you place Equestria "in the USA"

US immigration policy gives strong preference to people with skills and education, which means that this trope is often Truth in Television when it comes to African immigrants and their children. (This policy is also one of the main causes of Asian and Nerdy.) Statistically, sub-Saharan African immigrants have higher levels of educational attainment than all other American ethnic/immigrant groups, including whites and Asians.

while South Asian (Indian) makes sense if you place it in the UK. The USA would make more sense because of the accents. Except those in Canterlot, but those are kinda weird: it's not quite RP, is it now?

Also, Fluttershy: isn't she lovely? Isn't she wonderful?

I'd really like someone to make a PMV of her with this song... specifically Kevin Mc Hale's cover... it suits her so well.

Raise your hands, anyone here who like RD would be ready to risk life and limb to protect Flutter's Honor.

[up][up][up]That was my internal reaction when I found out Klaine were getting married.

What? Outwardly I kept a perfectly straight face. Wooden even.

I don't want to set the world on fire, baby. I love you too much. I just want to start a big, big flame in your heart.

Hey, sorry to interrupt current discussion but, remember a few pages back when we were discussing what video games the Ponies would like?

Well I was just browsing the Resident Evil wiki and I noticed this:

So apparently our number one unicorn loves blasting zombies. I wonder: does Spike watch her play, or does he hide under the sofa? (or does he play, and she watches?)

(This actually kind of makes sense, considering how much Twi got into ghost story-ing in "Look Before You Sleep")

[up] Remember when Spike thought Zombies had came to Ponyville and that freaked him out?

Suddenly it all makes sense.

[up][up]Resident Evil seems like something Spike might play, I'm sure he was just borrowing Twilight's editing account to make entries.

A more likely scenario is that Spike would have the console downstairs while Twilight is upstairs playing Anachronox. She is waiting for him to go to sleep so she can boot up Silent Hill 3 again.

I can just see Spike and Twi having a heated Silent Hill vs. Resident Evil argument.

"Look, Spike, I've compiled charts, graphs, and photographic evidence that Silent Hill features ghosts, static radios, paranormal environments and psychological terror, therefore it is objectively better!"

"But Resident Evil is more fun!"

And so on into the night.

(Meanwhile, Pinkie Pie plays Clock Tower, and thus has the edge over both of them)

On the whole 'ponies and race' thing, if I were to draw a humanification of any pony, I'd probably go with Mukokuseki and be done with it. Because if I were to use actual races* , that specific characteristic would draw too much attention. No matter what I'd do, it would still feel like I'm either confirming or intentionally subverting stereotypes, which I consider to be equally bad.

Getting all sorts of ethical dilemmas involved when all I want to do is draw cute girls isn't my idea of fun, really.
Calvin: I kind of resent the manufacturer's implicit assumption that this would amuse me.

[Realizes Ace is from Singapore too.]

Huh. We should meet up sometime.

Also, I've really been wanting to draw some pony art for some time, but Lauren Faust's style just eludes me. It's really just so different from my style. I mean, I drew Zoran that one time, but everything else since then has been pretty off. Maybe give me some tips, Mousa? :/

Mixing them up a bit wouldn't hurt.

I had Twilight as:

White or Japanese. Black could work too. (In short, Twilight could be anything).

AJ: White

RD: Greek

Rarity: White (I used to think she could be Chineese)

Fluttershy: Greek

Pinkie Pie: Either Scots Irish or Jewish.

[up][up]I don't know, Kegisak is better at the style then I am, but the best I can see is that it's best to keep it simple. The style is pretty different from mine too, but I always kept references right next to me when I was drawing so I always knew what the basic body style was.

Just advice being overly detailed an still to simple shapes and straight lines.

I guess I would need to see your attempts so I could give specific advice on them.

[up][up][up][up][up][up]I don't think Rarity would play video games, neither would Applejack for that matter.

[up][up][up][up][up][up][up]Pinkie would probably play mostly rhythm games and "party" games, but she would be willing to play almost anything (Dash has a one-sided rivalry with her in Street Fighter, Soul Caliber and. . .pretty much every fighting game).

However she hates Mario Party and its ilk. She never gives specific reasons, but she claims its "where parties go to die".

@Pan:

My personal advice is not to try to completely duplicate Lauren's technique. Instead, capture the style and spirit she pours into her works, and adapt your style slightly to match.

Take this example of ponyart by yours truly. I modified my old technique to bring in elements of the canonical ponystyle, yet retain my own style.

[down]Oh wait you are in Singapore too? Did you join the SG Bronies at AFA 2011? I was there too.

II woulda thought Rarity would be vaguely jewish, if only for the vibes I got from her parents. But I don't know much about American stereotypes anyway.

These were my first attempts at the style, obviously not perfect but a decent approximation which is the best you can hope for; making them just right in your own style.

[up]No, if her parents are any indication it means she's a member of the Lutheran church with Scandinavian roots.

Yeah, it was just something about her features...but now that we've meet her parents I'm not so sure.

Maybe she could be.

I don't think very much about culture, so I never painted them with our cultural brush, so to speak.

@Pan: another example. I wrestled my ballpoint to do this, and until I reinstall my wacom bamboo, I won't be able to run cleanup easily unless I vectorise it in GIMP.

I suggest studying equine anatomy or just consulting some how-to-draw-pony pieces on ponibooru. Which side of Singapore do you stay at anyway? (I'm on the east side)
