@Mousa I just find it odd that so many people like to outright dissmiss the idea of them having recreational sex. Maybe I'm too perverted to get it, but I just don't see why people would think that way.

Yes, if Word Of God came down and said that they were Asexual, but weren't Aromantic then I'd be cool with it, but until that happens, we have no reason to believe that they act like anything other than ponified humans. Humans have sex recreationally. Occam's Razor dictates that you choose the simplest explanation available, which means that there's a specific reason why people are going out of their way to think like this.

Well recreational sex is often considered "naughty". And people just don't like seeing "innocent" creatures doing "naughty" things.

Yep, ponies is about escaping to a magical land of innocence. Innocence = no casual sex.

@Ginger: I think that's an overgeneralization of human behavior. Some humans have sex recreationally, others aren't interested, others enjoy sex but think it's most appropriate as an expression of intimacy in the context of a romantic relationship.*

I have no reason to believe that the ponies wouldn't be the same way. I don't have much trouble believing that say, Pinkie would be rather cavalier about it, but I can't imagine Twilight or Rarity having a lot of casual sex.

Basically, I don't think that you can really make a blanket statement of "all the ponies share orientation X"; every pony is going to have their own take on it.

not at all. And it obvious by this point ponies most definitely are NOT aromantic. Like I said, i got no problems with sexually active ponies in fannon, just not a fan of it in cannon.

and yeah, if ponies aren't asexual by nature then they'd have the same spread of sexuality humans do.

Also this. I don't think it would fit the tone of the show like at all. The only way I can possibly imagine getting it in there is if a previously established couple (i.e. the Cakes) show up with a baby at some point.

There's a big difference between recreational sex as in 'hey, random mare over there, let's boink' and as in 'you worked really hard today... want to turn in early, honey?'. By recreational I mean entirely for the purpose of having fun - as in, not for procreation. I certainly don't think Equestria is a hookup culture, but I also can't see them being as prudish about safe, responsible, consensual sex as we are.

@JT God, I say one blanket statement. What I meant to say is: "There are humans who have recreational sex" My confusion is more aimed at the people who like to think that ALL poies are asexual, bar none.

When I got up this morning, I did not expect the main topic of discussion to be applying the Kinsey scale to ponies.

@Red Savant: Yeah, should have remembered to make that distinction. But it doesn't really affect my point: that the ponies are probably varied just as much as humans are.

@Ginger: Okay, that makes more sense. And yeah, I don't get the "all ponies are asexual" thing either. But again, I doubt it's going to show up in canon anyway outside of stuff like Rarity's Prince Charming fantasies.

And yes - my core statement of opinion on both matters is that ponies have around an equal spread of sexual orientations (including asexuality) as humanity, but that they're less prudish and don't view SSC in the broader sense sex as 'wrong' or something to be ashamed of.

I'm not saying it's weird for this thread, it's just that it wasn't the weirdness I was anticipating. Kind of like bringing wooden stakes, garlic, and holy symbols, and then being attacked by martians.

@ Ginger, by asexual i don't mean, avoid sex at all cost, or hate the idea sex etc.. simply that, sex doesn't matter to them. They know what to do if a mare wants a foal, but they just don't think of sex as anything but the means to the end. To ponies it's the emotional connection that matters, not anything physical. If a pony somehow learned about the way humans view sex, there reaction wouldn't be disgust, or anything negative. they'd just be more a bit confused because they never thought of it that way.

@Seraph Which is just it. My mind can't quite understand why you'd settle on a viewpoint like that. Not when there are much more obvious ones (like that they treat sexuality almost exactly the way humans do for example) out there anyway.

but they act like humans. I don't think they've ever acted, behavioural wise, like ponies natrually do. (I'm probably wrong on that though, please correct me if I am)
