And in the W.I.T.C.H. comics, which have a somewhat similar team, the romance was dealt with fairly well, without detracting from the girls' main plots (although Dude In Distress was a common occurrence, but this won't happen here since it's more slice of life than adventure). The series was fairly good too, until Executive Meddling kicked in...

I'll tell you all why I wouldn't mind seeing romance in the show...
...it's because I want to see these characters as happy as possible...because I like them...yes, romance isn't required or even necessary for true happiness...and they have each other...but if you can increase the mane six's happiness...then I'm happy.
I'm not saying that romance is needed...I just personally think that it would be a nice touch.

Well, there still young. Late teens to early twenties i'd say, and all the ponies we've seen in relationships have been middle aged, so could be ponies just don't seek out relationship's till later in life then human's do.

One of the ads for the show included "Rarity's Secret", so apparently lingerie is a thing in Equestria.
