eh... dpends on how it's handled. When she's treated like an actual pet, it's kinda wierd. When it's just a little gaqme that they play as lovers, it's cute.

I should note that I don't mean that in a sexual way. I just mean as like, a little inside joke thing. Like their way of saying 'I'm yours', or something.

Honestly, I'd be HAPPIER if they meant it in a sexual context. (I've seen lovers act like that)

Rarity's parents are starting to grow on me. I mean they're just so obnoxiously cheesy.

They look like people who go to Hawaii just to buy shirts with coconuts on them and hula-girl dashboard dolls.

Seems creepy to me.

Here, I think I can articulate myself better:

In a situation where Dash is treating Twilight as essentially her inferior and makes her act like an animal, and Twilight treats Dash as her superior and goes along with it, it's creepy.

In a situation where Dash and Twilight treat each other like equal, spaient beings, but Twilight happens to wear a collar ('Taking her out for a walk' is essentially just going for a walk in the park, and 'feeding her' is making her dinner), it's cute. Still odd, but really sweet, in a strange sort of way.

I wonder what Rarity thinks of her folks? Do you think she'd ever, like, go out for a meal with them or something? In public

Just browsing around the wiki and I've noticed that we can't be sure why Rarity's father is an Earth Pony or a unicorn. But later in the same episode we found out that Rarity is nearly as athletic as Applejack. Is it possible Rarity is part Earth Pony?

Anythings possible.

I kind of hope Rarity's dad is a unicorn. Because I have the completely unsupported by canon idea that if two ponies of a different type have a foal together, the foal is the third type of pony.

Well it is possible for him to be a pegasus as well, as he's wearing a hawaiian shirt. It's theoretically possible that his wings are folded under the shirt. But I'm interested in how pony heredity works and I'm curious as to any possbile in show evidence.

You know what I think? I that her parents are actually filthy rich, but are probably new money. Like they got lucky and won the lottery, and they were sensible enough to actually hold onto it, invest it well, and get even more money. Rarity meanwhile, having been born into it, is embarrased that they don't act more like their class.

They probably went into early retirement, and now they just vacation everywhere a whole bunch. Like, maybe every few months or something they take a trip somewhere. Sometimes they take Sweeite and Rarity with them, sometimes they go for a little... privacy.

Luaren said she couldn't see why they could not mix things up a bit. And I like that idea 1+2=3:

Same/Same = Same

One type/Second type = Third Type.

Makes perfect sense to me. Your theory on Rarity's parents I mean...

Yeah. They strike me that way. They dress very gaudily, and Rarity is very concerned about being seen as a Lady in "At the Gala, perhaps indication of insecurity in her status.

Oh, I don't know... she probably loves them a lot, but they're Amazingly Embarrassing Parents for her. She'd love to go to places, but she'd probably end up face-hoofing a lot.

Her reaction to her parents in SS was probably due to the fact that holy shit when did you get in my house. She did imply she had forgotten they were leaving that day, after all.
