Fur Is Skin is in full efect in this story. I'd even say Hooves Are Skin. Also
Beauty is Never Tarnished: those hooves are on the ground all the time, yet they manage to somehow remain clean. Especially egregious in Diamond Dogs: rarity got a little dusty at the beginning, but soon she was and remained squicky-clean.
As for being attracted to their "personalities"... Tell me, would you be as friendly to them if they looked less cute and if their voice actresses were terrible? If the deciding factor is
personality, then nothing matters as long as the writing is good. Not the character design, not the animation, not the voice acting.
No. The Mane Six are beautiful, graceful, and speak with delightful voices. This triggers emotional and instinctual cues that trascend species: in fact, our brains are not so good at discriminating between humans and other creatures
* and likewise, otherwise donkeys, dophins and apes wouldn't have been reported to try to rape humans), and the taboo against bestiality, among others, is an artificial construct, not the result of a biological reality. Regardless of the ethical implications (You shouldn't fuck animals because... they can't give consent? But you can imprison, caress, ride, and eat them, that is fine.[[hottip:*:Yes, it's not really about the animals, is it?
).
That said, being attracted to a pony, romantically or sexually, is functionally more akin to being attracted to an
alien: Was Kirk ever ashamed of shanking a squid-shaped
Green-Skinned Space Babe? Are people ashamed of finding the Na'vi attractive? No? Then perhaps neither should you.
Of course,
I personally have no interest in ponies. Or in anyone or anything for that matter. But I wanted to clarify this point, because both the people who get sanctimonious
and the people who giggle with a gleeful sense of transgression at the clopart and clopfics somewhat annoy me. But that's okay. It doesn't matter. :)
I don't want to set the world on fire, baby. I love you too much. I just want to start a big, big flame in your heart.
