I doubt he would have tried to kill them. But he would probably have roughed them up a bit.

I'd argue that the dragon is indeed a bit of a jerk. Considering his size, I'd guess he must be pretty old. At least old enough to know what happens when he naps. Twilight even outlined how the smoke jeopardized the lives of hundreds of ponies and his response was basically to go "lol, whatevs" and blow smoke in her face.

With Rarity, I can see why he'd be mad. I mean, she tried to make off with a bunch of his stuff. Clobbering Pinkie was uncalled for, though. And Dashie was just being stupid (and a jerk).

Twilight orders RD to clear the smoke. If she alone could do it, then certainly a team of em could divert the smoke somewhere else

I'd say that was the first time he was in Equestria. His naps aren't dangerous ANY other places he sleapt in, why would it be different here? Also, Twilight woke him up

Smoke can make people sick, and probably ponies, too. Plus it would cloud the area so sunlight couldn't penetrate through and make stuff grow.

Basil can't sleep anywhere. He was kicked out of his country and now, whenever he tries to find a new place to sleep he's rejected by the locals because of his dangerous smoke. That's why he's so grumpy, and why eventually, he'll go insane from sleep deprevation and die

Which is really just an inconvenience, considering the size of his wings and how fast he can probably fly.

It's really not reasonable for him to expect the entire country to step up their weather-control efforts for the next century just because he couldn't find a better place to take a "nap".

They tried civility. A lot of it. He was the one who smoked out the one trying to calmly explain the situation and the ramifications and all that.

He could at least get some sort of dragon-strength decongestant to stop all that smoky snoring.

"We should just take the dragon's smoke... and push it somewhere else!"

He was tired, Would YOU listen to the ramblings of some tiny, insignificant creature who rudely woke you up while also being groggy and half asleep?

again, where could he sleep?

So possibly a hundred years worth of damage is fine, so long as Basil gets his nap? And no don't say that the smoke was harmless as Celestia herself would not have informed them if it wasn't.

Heh. He was aware enough to deliberately flop back down and smoke her out, as if to say "haha no."

In any case, there's gotta be plenty of places for him to go for a nap. If dragons couldn't sleep without entirely wiping out ecosystems, either dragons or the rest of the world's life would have died off.

It's just logical that there's some other place he can sleep.

I'm sure there are plenty of places where a dragon could sleep. For example, just find a place where the winds will blow the smoke out over the ocean or desert or something.
